The raw data comes from Kantar Media's Campaign Media Analysis Group, as reported by Elizabeth Wilner of Advertising Age. The big takeaway is that 2012 spending in battleground states is running at about three times its 2008 level. Based on past patterns, Wilner figures this means that the two campaigns will be airing about 43,000 ads per day for the rest of the election cycle.

Thank God I don't live in a swing state.

The Advertising Standards Authority's 'Deleting Expletives' report of 2000 put bollocks as the 8th most offensive word according to the British public. (Wanker was 4th, before nigger or bastard.) Words lower in the 'severity of offence' list than bollocks include arsehole, twat and shit.

But did they win?

The game ended in a 0-0 tie. The game was played in a torrential downpour which lead to the teams punting on first down, combining for 77 total punts.

Why they thought punting was less likely the lead to a turnover in those situations as opposed to running the ball, I do not know.

The Belly Button Biodiversity Project, which explores the bacterial ecosystems living in its participants' navels, has discovered that a small number of bacterial phylotypes (or "species") dominate the micro-landscape. The biologists' results show a "jungle of microbial diversity" with over 2,300 species of bacteria present and only eight of those recurring frequently -- a similar diversity distribution to that of tree species in tropical rainforests.

Yuck.

How far are we falling behind when America is only isn't even the best in the world at liking America?

The U.S. ranks 3rd in liking the United States « Ranking America (http://rankingamerica.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/the-u-s-ranks-3rd-in-liking-the-united-states/)

According to the Pew Global Attitudes Project, seventy-nine percent of Americans in 2011 had a favorable view of Americans. That makes the United States rank third out of twenty-three countries ranked in that category. Japan ranks first, with eight-five percent of Japanese having a favorable view of the United States.

Saw this in the comments, we're still #1 in liking ourselves (i.e, the American people):

Database | Pew Global Attitudes Project (http://www.pewglobal.org/database/?indicator=2&mode=chart)

It's kind of interesting looking at those side by side. No dramatic difference in the ranks, but the Brits, Lebanese, Egyptians, and especially the Jordanians like Americans more than they like America, whereas Japan, Spain, Mexico, Brazil like America a little more than they like Americans.

As far as I know, my intestines are and always have been inside my body. Almost all of my surgeries have been orthopaedic (well, mostly so). The 2 that weren't were my tonsillectomy and my procedure to repair an opened incision (and the incision that opened was from an orthopaedic-ish surgery).

That's a great resource for actors. Youtube has made it so much easier to di dialect work. I just recently directed a character that needed an Argentine accent. Not only could I find multiple videos of Argentinians practicing English, but I also found a short series showing the Argentine Spanish accent.
