You'll forgive my skepticism? Considering the length of time it's been promised.. |

you play the role of a consumer buying the game |
It still doesn't sound like career progression will be in the game which equals no buy for me.

Fixed. :D |

Well things have always been promised by the Trunzo's and if you read the first post of the thread they are no longer involved in the game. Andreas now owns the rights to it. Quote:
The RPG is the career mode. You will basically be the manager of the gym and have to sign fighters and then control them throughout their career. So career progression is actually the main new addition to TBCB3. |
I'm willing to give it a chance, TBCB has always been solid with what it already does, and despite being promised before (or atleast hinted at) I think it's fairly obvious that career aspects are the best step the game can take in moving foward.
Heres to hoping it makes a 2007 release as stated. |
Quote:
I can't help but be skeptical of the 2007 release as well (given the past), but since it's coming from Andreas, I think I can trust it a bit more than the past. Especially considering that all previous promises that went unfullfilled never came from Andreas. And I don't mean to paint Jim Trunzo as some kind of bad guy, but I think he had some....unrealistic assumptions about how fast game development moved. |
Andreas is talking first beta in a week or two so while I was skeptical about a 2007 release also this is a good sign.
I think this version will take some serious beta work though since it is going to branch in two different directions. Open mode (which is how we play now) and RPG mode. The RPG mode will be a brand new game from ground up (with exception of the game engine). There hasn't been a RPG boxing game that has been worth a crap so there really isn't any design modules to follow. Please visit the suggestions thread there and tell Andreas what you want to see in a career management game. He is very good at listening to suggestions. Sabotai has had one of the best suggestions yet as far as grouping fighters. Without Andreas we would have never even gotten the aging into TBCB2. Jim wasn't a bad guy but the problem was that he wasn't a programmer. He would promise things without talking to the programmer first to see if 1) it was possible or 2) if the programmer (in this case Andreas) was free from other projects. OOTP is the money maker there and Andreas has pretty much spent 2 straight years working for Markus and SI on it. Now he has some free time and owns the game. |
Yeah while i understand the apprehension from people at least try to keep an open mind since this is new management. I love the current TBCB2 but am very interested to see the next incarnation.

I absolutely understand the apprehension .. there has been numerous promises made and broken over the years. But with Andreas taking over the game I feel just fine in backing the new announcement. In the end it's a small market game but could be bigger with the career mode added in. |
I'm excited to hear this. TB has always had a very solid fight engine and just screamed out for this. I'd given up on it ever happening though.
I imagine I'll wait a while though, I can't imagine this release being pretty. |
I'm interested in seeing how it plays out. I've found the last two games to be complete bores because of no RPG mode, but will be very interested in picking this up if it looks good.
|
I absolutely love the concept, I'm sending good vibes towards this project.
|
HAha we are elitists!
YEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAWWWWW! |

I am sure there will be some challenges, but I anticipate it being a lot better then some may think out of the gate. We have a strong, if small community over there that brings a great deal of knowledge to the table, and Andreas will be utilizing that. There is a already a long list of things he has been working on and he made a great Choice adding Mike and Chris to the development Team....When all is said and done I am sure it will be worth the wait, as the the game as it is now is very solid. |
It sounds good, hopefully it plays out like we'd all wish to see. Does anyone know how much of his time through the end of the year Andreas will have to dedicate to this game?

That's a good question. I think he is pretty freed up until they start in on OOTP2008 but OOTP is definitely still his first priority. |
I understand OOTP taking priority, but I think if the game was developed properly into a solid career/RPG game it could have a much larger fan base and be worth full time effort. I believe Arlie had mentioned something about TEW being one, if not their best selling game for GDS and, while I understand there is considerable differences between the two the promoter concept is still there. TBCB could have a similiar following once it broadens its audience, it'd help if it got a headstart on the release of WMMA as well.

Very good news. I've always been very interested in a management boxing sim, can't wait to try this new one.
|
Quote:
Yeah Andreas realizes career mode is a must to expand the fan base. I think it needs a spanish translation also and Andreas is looking into that also. |
Good news, i have been waiting for this for a long time, adn with Andreas now being the main guy behind it, i have more trust in the project.
About Spanish translation, it sounds good, as there are tons of Spanish and South American boxing fans, i'll hit Andreas up in case he needs help with that. |
So it sounds like Andreas is pretty excited about it, and I think that he has a strong base to work from, as well as a pretty hardcore central group who are committed to it.
On the other hand, it doesn't matter what game, whether it be OOTP, FM, or others, first edition rewrites don't seem to go over as well as the second edition. I would normally wait to see what the second edition has to offer, but I will wait and see what kind of discount is offered for previous buyers. I like the idea of RPG, but the incorporation could be difficult. ABC's Wide World of Boxing saw loads of playtime on my computer, even with all of its flaws. So this is something that I am certainly looking forward to. |

I am thinking late fall at the earliest, though Andreas says quite a bit has been done already. |
Either way, I have been looking for a RPG/promoter/manager game for boxing for quite some time so I will definitely give it a look. Especially since it should have a great base/engine with 2 previous versions.
There's certainly enough marketplace for a boxing and MMA sim. |
Quote:
MMA sim would be pretty hot right now given the rise in popularity. |
For anyone interested... It's slightly old news (2 weeks ago but I just read it). Can't say I'm exactly surprised but oh well, OOTP is the priority.

delayed, huh?
This is Foz's complete and utter lack of surprise. |
It's worse than delayed. It's OOTP 6.5 all over again. Bleh.
|
We need a RPG boxing game, dang it I guess it time for me to make one. Does anybody here know how I would start a game company so I could put out a game..???
|
I've waiting for career mode/RPG in this series since Title Bout '99. I remember all of the problems the Trunzo's had back at that time with the programmer they contracted with to write it. With the benefit of hindsight, I really wonder now if the developer was Daivd?

I don't think so. Otherwise we could have custoimzed the fighter's robe & trunks as well as going to the concession stand for drinks. |
Sadly, I'm not surprised.

My clue was when sometime the ref would count to 172.2342218 before declaring a KO. Or the epic "Thrilla with Vanilla", where Allee and Brazier fought valiantly for -21.2319387 rounds. |
