Our game against EF27 and his Trojans started off poorly for us. We had to punt on our first drive, and historically, these games have been real scorefests. Failing to score on our first drive was a bad, bad sign. We quickly found ourselves trailing by 7 when junior All-American RB Jimmy Stewart ran it in from 23 yards out. Our Senior QB James Shuler and the freshman RB Danny Clark marched us down for a score to tie things up. From there, they answered, we answered, they answered, and we answered to make it 21-21 midway through the second quarter. We caught a break when Lawrence Gilmore threw a pick on their next drive late in the half. We turned that into a 28-21 lead on a 6-yard Clark run with 47 seconds left before the break. Gilmore was driving them for the tying score when we picked him off again. A couple of quick passes moved us into position, and Shuler was able to hit our All-American senior receiver James Godfrey as time expired to send us into the half up 35-21. After a dubious start, things were looking up for the Hoosiers.

USC was not going to go quietly. Senior Drew Brown returned the opening kick of the second half 106 yards to cut our lead in half. In response, we pounded the ball down the field with Clark, who eventually ran it in to make it a 42-28 lead. Gilmore found his favorite target Culver again late in the third to cut our lead to 42-35 as we neared the fourth quarter.

Clark ran in his 5th TD of the day with 6:19 left in the game to make it a 49-35 advantage for us. After getting eaten up by hook routes to Culver all day, our defense finally made a play as we hauled in our third interception of the day. We went into pound the ball and eat clock mode. Sitting on a 14-point lead, we were content to run down the clock and hit a 20-yard field goal to give us a 52-35 advantage with 2:02 left. USC would need 3 scores to beat us now, and they would have to do it with no timeouts left.

They got the first score in 10 seconds, as Gilmore hit Stewart for a 58-yard TD to bring them to within 10, 52-42. We lined up for the onside kick, and we were able to secure the ball. From there, we handed the ball to Clark a few times, chewed up the clock, and secured the win. Good game, EF. I had a very bad feeling in the first half. But turnovers can really swing the momentum.

Danny Clark finished the day with 38 carrries for 291 yards and 5 TDs. Shuler hit on 7 of 9 passes for 220 yards and 2 TDs. Hopefully we showed enough to secure a spot in the BCS Championship Game.
