Never has a game made such incredible use of the keyboard to play.

I hope there is some controller support, but I doubt it. Either way, I'm waiting for this to show up.

These are probably not playable with a controller, right? Maybe I'll get them for my son to play anyhow. He doesn't mind keyboard controls in Minecraft...

Haven't played these games in roughly 18 years and it is the most excited I have been for a game release in ages. More exciting than FM and Civ to be sure.

I wasted countless hours as a 12-14 year old with these two games, more with TIE Fighter.

Now I just need an affordable copy of Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road.

Do you have a direct link? I don't see them on GOG.com

When I played these on PC, I definitely used a HOTAS setup. Having analog control over the throttle made it so much easier to slide in behind a TIE and kill it. I hope it still has some form of flightstick control included.

Looks promising!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Windows version of STAR WARSŪ: X-Wing (1998) requires a controller or joystick. STAR WARSŪ: X-Wing (1993) can be played with a mouse and keyboard.

So the Xbox 360 controller for the PC would work, or would a true joystick be more ideal?

Depends on how well you can feather the trigger, for true flight throttle control I want an actual throttle (luckily I have a couple of sets of sticks and throttles from my flight sim days...)

Man, so many times you play an old game and you think it isn't quite as good as you remember. I've put in a few hours into the X-Wing (1998) game. It delivers in spades. Ridiculously fun.

Does Tie Fighter have both expansions?

I'm hearing people say that it isn't the "good" edition of the game.

The 1998 version has both expansions but requires a controller or flight stick. It doesn't have the 1995 version that has both expansions but can be played with keyboard and mouse.

There's no bad edition of these games. It's a load of fun and people are splitting hairs if they allow things like that to keep them from spending $10 for each of these games.

I just installed Xwing Alliance since I still had the discs. Took a couple hours to find appropriate patches but I finally got it running on my Windows 8 machine.

Xwing Alliance is much harder than I remember.

Or maybe I'm just drunk

The only thing that makes the '94 versions better is the iMUSE system

I caved and bought Tie Fighter. I told myself that I wouldn't spend any money on games until the Black Friday deals.

I'm loving it so far(again) but I do miss the context sensitive music. I mean it just seems wrong to blow up a X-Wing while listening to the Rebel Fanfare.
