Football "Lock of the Week" Contest

Football “Lock of the Week” Contest

Rules

1. Using the betting lines from Caesar's-Hilton (you can go to hxxp://www2.vegas.com/gaming/ to find the lines), select a “lock of the week” from any college or professional football game this season until the Super Bowl.

2. You must make your pick 1 hour before kick-off and post the line in your selection. However, you can make your pick early, but you are locked into the line at the time of selection (honor system: please be honest about the line).

3. You must be able to participate each week. If you fail to make your selection that week, you are eliminated from the competition.

4. If you are a winner that week, you will receive a bonus depending on the amount your pick goes over/under the line. This will be used as a tie-breaker.

5. There is no bonus for ties or losses.

6. The person with the best record will win the contest. (Again, ties will be broken using the bonus)

Example:

Bob picks USC -4.5 over California and the Trojans win the game 21-13. He would be 1-0 (+3.5 bonus).

Jim picks Nebraska +1 over Texas and the Huskers win 13-10. Jim would be 1-0 (+4.0 bonus).

Bill picks Tulsa -7 over Houston and the Hurricanes win 26-20. Bill would be 0-1 (no bonus).

Good luck to the participants!

Caesar's-Hilton has posted several so far.

They pulled them for some reason, but they are back now.

It was minutes before I posted this morning.

Checking vegasinsider.com, looks like it has actually moved up to -5... but I am sticking with -4.5, because that's what was listed at the site that duckman referenced at the time I made my selection.

I think that line has to be a screw-up, but I'll take it since it is listed.

Just to be sure, this is the one you want? I will allow the LSU-UNC pick since the other casino did not have it listed, if you choose that one instead. It's up to you.

You do know that's a preseason game? I just want you to make sure you have the best chance to win.

Texas (-28) vs Rice instead. Probably still more or less a "preseason" game but since it does count for the standings I feel a little better picking it.

Sure, if you'll let me have that other one, I would rather have the LSU-UNC pick. I was just trying to follow instructions.

Since people already chose the obvious three (VT, betting against ND, LSU) I'll go with Oregon State +13 @ TCU in the interest of being different. I think Daryl Washington was a bigger loss to TCU's defense than people realize.

BishopMVP, I may add a new rule next week that once someone makes that pick that no one else can use the same pick. I haven't made my mind up yet, but I don't want widespread piggybacking to keep up with the leaders.

I'll be out of town this weekend, so I will not be here to bump this again before the later kickoffs. I will post the next week's standings and possible rule changes on Tuesday.

I think you should allow the same picks all the way through week 10 or 11. We can see where everyone is at by then and see if the piggy backing is going to be a problem. If it is, you can force the picks to be made in order of record. (ie: best record gets first pick of games, etc.)

I was talking to Cuckoo about that the other day. I'll take a cautious approach to it and see we are at several weeks down the line...
