Lance Armstrong & Sheryl Crow Split

And another relationship falls apart:

Sheryl Crowe and Lance Armstrong Split

February 3, 2006

In another shocking celebrity breakup, LANCE ARMSTRONG and SHERYL CROW have split, according to People magazine. The seven-time Tour de France bicycling champion and the rockstar musician got engaged in September 2005, when Armstrong proposed to Crow in Sun Valley, ID, not long after he retired from the pro circuit in July. He and Crow officially became an item back in early 2004.

"After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up. We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time," a joint statement released to People through Armstrong's spokesman read.

Armstrong, 33, has a son and two twin daughters from a previous marriage. Grammy winner Crow, 42, has previously been linked to ERIC CLAPTON, OWEN WILSON and KID ROCK.

The couple spoke to BARBARA WALTERS last November, when Armstrong was named one of Walters' "Most Fascinating People." While showing off her six-carat diamond engagement ring, the two talked about what drew them together.

"She's hot," Lance said. "I saw that!"

But Sheryl said she just knew he was the one. "I think sometimes you meet people and they just strike such a familiar chord with you," she said. "I just thought I had known him forever."

Lance also spoke to our KEVIN FRAZIER about his love for Crow in August 2005, saying, "We plan on having a long future together."

For more news on the split, stay tuned to ET!

First Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora and now this? Is nothing sacred in this world? I know that Lance and Sheryl weren't married, but they were for all intents and purposes. I blame those states that allow gay marriage. See what it's doing to the sanctity of marriage!!! Don't you see?!?!

I don't know. I'm terrified... Madonna and Guy Ritchie? Gwen Paltrow and the guy from Coldplay? It could be anyone!

Er, I don't know about you, but I'm in full support of Angelina Jolie ending up back on the open market.

I wouldn't object to a Kevin Bacon/Kyra Sedgwick split, either.

The more gossip-savvy than me can probably better answer this, but hasn't this one already been rumored?

While I can't speak for everyone (though from just reading the posts, I would be pretty comfortable speaking for them), the short answer is: no, not at all.

I just find it fun to mock it on various levels. Though I do find it very sad (and quite telling) that this was (and still is) front page (top headline news) on CNN.com.

Do you really get the sense of reading the posts that anyone does actually care? (except for maybe Terps, but she has a soft spot in her heart for Lance... or so I think. Though I could just be making that up.)

Just so it doesn't look like I am picking on the US media, the break-up also on the front page of the BBC's website under "Other Top Stories."

You need to catch up. Two weeks in celebrity life is like seven years in normal people life.

You missed the adopted Syrian baby and the affair with Grant Wistrom's personal trainer entirely.

I'd say anyony married to J-Lo, but it seems Marc Anthony is the only guy ballsy enough to tame this chick.

Let's see, how about Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake?
