Microfracture surgery

Any here ever had it or know somebody who did? About 9-10 years ago I tore my ACL, mensicus and had a nice surgery done at the HSS in NYC. The graft has been fine but a few years ago it started hurting and when I went for an MRI, the doc said I had some tears in my cartiledge, but back then I guess they really didn't do anything about it.

A few months ago while playing baseball, I injured my other knee (partial MCL tear). A few weeks later, my original knee starting hurting again, probably from the over-compensation. I got an MRI and the doctor said I had a full thickness fissure in my lateral femoral condyle, as well as a small baker's cyst and some fluid buildup. He suggested PT first to strengthen my leg (I'm in pretty good shape, run about 5 miles a day when it gets warmer). It started to feel better then sort of reverted back to normal. He said the next step would be microfracture surgery (as well as removal of the cyst and some minor other stuff). I understand this sort of injury won't ever heal on its own and I just don't want to be hurting more when I'm older. But the season is coming up and I want to see if I can get the surgery done soon and be ready in 2 months, or if recovery from this procedure is long. I tried to ask the doc, but they don't dispense advice without appointments, even at the "prestigious" BWH. Anyone have any experiences with this? Gracias!

As a species, I think it's high time we evolved a more durable knee.

Seems like man should be able to harness the power of the ball bearing to create a better knee.

I wish I was active enough to have a chance to blow my knee out.
