Thank you dead people

Without you, we'd have far less days off.

President's day rules!

On my way to work this morning traffic was noticeably lighter than usual. I wondered why. Then I remembered it was President's day.

My first reaction was happiness that so many people had the day off so traffic would be light all the way to work. Then I realized that all those assholes had the day off.

The parking lots are rather clear around here and most people I know have the day off.

Gee, based on the subject line I thought this thread was about Democratic Party voting patterns.

In all seriousness, that was my thought, too. I was expecting a thread about some Charleston lefty who won an election due to dead people's votes.

At any rate, it was great to receive the e-mail on Thursday "reminding" (more like "informing") me that I had today off. DeKalb County is out of school this week for winter break, too, so I don't have anything with kids this evening, either. Woohoo!!!

not bloody likely. i was planning on going to a democratic party meeting last week, but i decided not to at the last minute. The speaker was one of the dems planning on running for the governor seat. i looked at his website. it literally had nothing about where he stood on anything. the only things that mentioned any possible positions were "we need to change such and such thing the repubs want" or "mark sanford is waste". Granted, i agree with these things, but the fact he hasn't even stated any positions or ideas really turned me off. give me something to go on, not just "I'm not that guy" bullshit.

I took my five year old to the Smithsonian Museum of American History yesterday. He's learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in kindergarten, so he was pretty jazzed to see a suit that Washington wore. Of course he was more jazzed to see the machine guns in the America at War exhibit, but then again.. what five year old wouldn't be?

Mine is too. I guess that's a pretty common kindergarten Presidents' Day theme. My boy was rattling off the old log cabin facts about Lincoln, then he dropped in something like "Lincoln grew his beard because that's how women liked it."

WTF? He also said his teacher told him that? Either he's BS-ing me, or the teacher learned a little something extra off the History Channel that I've never heard before.

I went there a couple of weeks ago (when I was at CPAC), and that museum is really awesome. Both of the exhibits are great.

BTW, we don't get President's Day off at OU.

UCO doesn't give students President's Day off either though they did cancel the early morning classes due to weather. I went ahead and stayed home to finish a paper that is due tomorrow.

Ditto.

Of course, I was at work for my normal amount of time today, and well, had a bunch of things happen that frankly, I'm glad I was there to deal with instead of pushing off til tomorrow...

There really needs to be a "Customer Service Appreciation Day". Everyone who works at a restaurant, mall, grocery store (or store of any kind, really), theater, and basically anyone who has to deal with stupid customers will get that day off from work while the rest of the paper pushers out there who get every piddly holiday off from work have to work that day. That would be cool as hell...as long as I remember to pick up food and beer the day before.

Yep, I'll probably be there again as well. CRs from here go every year... though I'm not technically a CR anymore.

Yeah, it was... when I asked him about it again this morning, he said "a girl told him he would look handsome with a beard", which is a little different than what he said the first time. Thanks!
