Brian Greise released?

Saw this on the transaction wire... I hadn't heard this was coming. Is it a surprise? Are the Bucs planning to re-sign him?

With Simms and that guy they got from the Niners, I didn't think this was much of a suprise. If he is still injured, they will have to resign him within 25 days, or reach an injury settlement I believe.

He had a roster bonus coming and the Bucs were trying to restructure the deal. Apparently, they couldn't get a deal done.

I forgot where I read it, but there's a rumor that they're going to resign Griese much like Bruce resigned with the Rams after being released.

That's the word. Griese wants to re-sign, but wants lots of incentive bonuses in case he gets to start again. Which is likely with Chris "Ow" Simms at the helm.

As for the Tim Rattay, the 49'ers ex-QB, he's strictly 3rd string as far as I can tell.

Rattay's a solid 2nd string QB at worst.

I'd rather have Rattay than either Simms or Greise.
