Missouri, Yes Missouri, is Ranked in the AP Poll

Hell, if a Rutgers fan can blow his horn over getting a ranking with their schedule, I can sure as hell blow my horn over my Tigers. Here's some goodies for you to chew on.......

-4-0 for only the 5th time since 1925.
-#1 defense in the nation in yards allowed.
-Leads the nation in sacks, including an 8 sack game vs. New Mexico.
-#22 scoring offense in the nation.
-Sophmore Chase Daniel has a 141.5 passer rating.
-#14 rusher in the nation is Tony Temple (417 yards).
-#14 receiver in the nation is Wil Franklin (343 yards).
-Without question, the Tigers have the best TE duo in the nation. T. Rucker (6'6", 255) and C. Coffman (6'6", 250) have 34 catches between the two of them. Both are All-American candidates and are projected 1st or 2nd round draft picks (Rucker is a junior and Coffman is a sophmore). Their size and receiving ability create major mismatches in the secondary no matter who the defense uses to cover them.

Next game will be a good test for the Tigers. Although Colorado is 0-4, they nearly pulled the upset of #10 Georgia in Athens last week. Should be a good game, although Vegas is currently giving Mizzou a two touchdown advantage.

I think the reason it's a huge story with Rutgers is the fact that it's been 30 years.

Thanks for posting what I felt like posting.

I was just talking to a friend today (I have tickets for Oklahoma) to see if he wanted to drive down and attend the Colorado game.. although it is on TV. This is a HUGE game for us, imho.

GO TIGERS!!!

Yep, should be a great game to attend and there should be a pretty good crowd considering it is the Big 12 opener and MU is now ranked. Most said that MU should start the season 4-0. Now that they have, it's time to raise the bar and start shooting for a North division title. Nebraska's the only team that has played at the level of Mizzou thus far. We should be able to beat the other North teams.

To be honest, they probably wouldn't be ranked if they weren't located on the east coast. Either way, it may be a very short lived stay.

I'm not sure that's the case. I think it is as a result of blowing out the inferior competition they have faced off against so far this season. Since it is NC, Illinois, Ohio, and Howard, it doesn't say anything, but they've all been impressive wins. Hell, Rutgers beat Illinois at Illinois bigger than Iowa beat them.

Good for them. They should enjoy their stay as long as it lasts. I don't think it will last too long.

I have been following very closely the Tigers this season and I think the next game vs Colorado will tell us where this team really is.

Each game they have played could have been very large blowouts as the defense has been OUTSTANDING. However, the offense sometimes seems to lack the ability to get that knock out blow. The Mississippi game is a perfect example of this. The Tigers just killed Mississippi's offense, which was never in the game and I think they had negative yardarge at half, but the Tiger offense just couldn't seem to take advantage of really good field position and put the game away.

If the Tiger's offense can get on track and really start moving the ball they could win the North.

As far as the Rutgers thing...who doesn't want to see them do well? I think it is great.

So lets cheer for a Rutgers vs Missouri BCS Title game.

I'm happy to see Mizzou doing well - Gary Pinkel is a former long-time Don James assistant and I've been impressed with his philosophies on running a program (most of which are derived from James). I'm not sure of why he hasn't been able to replicate James' success - maybe he's not as successful in choosing his assistants - but he seems like one of the good guys.

There was something weird going on involving Brad Smith. I'm not sure they ever really knew how to run a team around him. He was an absolute freak of an athlete, but I'm not sure they ever found a good offense to use him in. There's always been no question that Pinkel is a good recruiter. They finally seem to have found the right fit between the offense and the quarterback now. It seems to be paying off in spades.

They haven't been ranked for 30 years. We'll leave it at that.

Congrats to your Cinci team as well. It appears that they may put two good seasons together.

I hear that Coach Pinkel has already implemented a gameplan for the OU game which includes only onside kickoffs to increase our chances of winning. The Oklahoma Senate may pass a bill outlawing it or threatening to quit the NCAA, but their laws are no good in Missouri.

First of all I don't understand coming on here and posting about the Tigers and then trash talking Rutgers. It makes you seem like you have a real inferiority complex. I say good for Rutgers let's knock two Miami-like teams out of the top 25.

Some of our fans and media were also complaining about there not being a sold out stadium for the Ohio game. I think it is great. There have been about 50,000 of us going to all the games through Powers and Stull and Larry Smith and Pinkel's down years that are still going today. The last thing I want to see is the "Johnny come lately" fans from St. Louis and Kansas City who have given up on the Rams and Chiefs who will buy their scalped tickets and get mad about me being hammered and standing and cheering the whole game. If the guy who has sat next to me for 10 years and the family who has been in front of me the last 6 don't care about my cheering why should I care about some bandwagon idiot who is attending their first game?

Agree with this 100%. We used to be a football powerhouse there is no need to get too worked up about a top 25 ranking. (Don't get me wrong I am happy about it, but I also understand the difference between Mizzou and Rutgers)

I'm not 'trash talking' Rutgers. I simply don't think they are deserving of a ranking. Only reason I made any comment about Rutgers initially was because my thread title was a pseudo-parity.

As far as the fan thing goes, it's a non-stop issue in both basketball and football. I'm a basketball season ticket holder and have similar feelings from that perspective.

From what I have seen, it seems likely Rutgers would have beaten Mizzu each of the past two seasons--and maybe this one as well.

With due respect to the Missouri fans, Missouri is following in the footsteps of Texas Tech and Minnesota here. Schedule some early patsies, get to 4-0 or 5-0, then finish 7-5 when the reality of the conference season sets in. Maybe Missouri is better than that. We'll find out.

Yeah, that bowl win last year against the 'old ball coach' after spotting his team 21 points last year was merely a fluke.

I'm sorry for being snarky about this actually.

Yay for Missouri, yay for Rutgers. I enjoy seeing new blood threaten the college football status quo (just lay off my Buckeyes). I think it would be best of all if Louisville or TCU or Fresno State or someone made the BCS. I'll leave it there.

I think this thread has all but guarenteed a loss this weekend against Colorado. This is why I will only talk trash after the season is over or after beating Kansas. My ultimate nightmare would be knocking off everyone (Including OU and Nebraska) and be 11-0 heading into Thanksgiving against the Jayhawks and geting beat by those bastards who completely own Gary Pinkel.

Doesn't a TCU/Boise St automatically get a BCS berth if they go undefeated now that they added the 5th bowl game?

Oh, and good for Mizzou/Rutgers. We'll learn a lot more about the two teams this weekend (Colorado, South Florida not being complete pushovers.)

I think they have to finish in the top 12 or something, but finishing unbeaten would seem to guarantee that.

Well, Brad Smith is now an NFL player, so I would say calling a player of his talent overrated is a bit much.

BTW, have you called Trent Green to see if he still remembers you? Might be a good test to see how many weeks our Chiefs will have to go without him.

overrated as an NFL calibur QB, yes... overrated as a COLLEGE football QB, uh.. no. I singlehandedly watched him win games all by himself. He's a great athlete and broke many, many, many, records while he was here.

We don't completely own him (or do stupid things like throw goalposts into the lake every time we beat an unranked, barely .500 team)

Yeah they are 0-5, but they are still a good team in my book. They've been getting better each week and played well against Georgia last week.

I really don't care, we played a great game and it's nice to see an offense that is not one dimensional anymore.
