I really pissed some people off at work today

Basically lot X was sold to some buyers and it sits on a drainage easement which is basically a creek with trees in it, and actually looks pretty nice when left natural, like I have behind my house. Anyways, today the super comes in the model bitching that he cant believe that they tore down the trees in the easement. After an inquisition by me we drive out there and see the guy in the huge caterpiller just wrapping a wonderful day of killing trees that werent needed to be torn down. In talking to him he agrees that it was unneccessary and that the next step he is supposed to do is fill the easement with fill dirt. He goes on to relay that this creek connects to all the lakes in the area and serves as overflow and its going to be a nightmare but what can he do. The super than says that his boss is supposed to be coming out today so I said, "Well perhaps its in everyone's best interest to wait until he gets here before filling in the ditch?" They agreed. As were leaving I see the guy on the phone so I know its going around that some lowly sales guy just halted a development. Im prepared. Basically the original siteplan as drawn up did call for the trees to be torn down but the back corner of the house would be sitting squarely in the ditch. This is completely unnecessary as the house can be slid to the right 10 ft. and all of this can be avoided....the new site plan accomplished this. I am sure that the development guy, lets call him Bill, didnt have the newest site plan when commanding the guys to tear everything down. What Bill doesnt know is that his boss was out yesterday and spoke to Keith (BF) and I and said, plain as day, 'There isnt a need to take those trees down and itll be nice to have that buffer between them and the school once its built.' So now, instead of figuring out how he fucked up and likely caused the company thousands of dollars in the way of having to build a bulkhead so the house doesnt erode into the ditch he wants to get pissed at me, "Well if Howard is now running Land then I might as well quit." (i heard he said this at the office) I sent a follow up email clearing the air and letting them know that by inferring that they might want to wait for the project manager I was absolutely doing the right thing and would do it again. I am so tired.

I did and he seemed to be pretty light about it however I just got conferenced called by him and the Land guy (boss) and the boss, while giving me the out of "you did the right thing", totally backtracked on everything he said yesterday saying that they had to take down the entire lot, and that the staking was irrelevant, etc. Then said he actually didnt make it over to the lot yesterday at all....I know however, that when on speakerphone, say as little as possible and be as diplomatic as possible. I have the two site plans in my hand and I am absolutely right. Tomorrow at the meeting out on the lot between the developer, land guy, and construction, I plan on keeping my mouth shut but allowing them to see that I have the site plans in hand. Its a tightrope at, compelling people to do what's right and listen to you eventhough youre on the bottom of the totem pole and not just view you as the guy on the bottom of the totem pole and want to fire you.

I think I type like that when Im really emotional and my mind is racing a million miles a minute. I also only use my index fingers and middles when typing but I fly....lots of typos but fly. I actually convinced my typing teacher in school to let me continue to do this if I finished in the top 5 in the class for the first semester, i did and she never tried to change me to the whole hand style of typing.

so we all met out there today, me, Bill, the super, the developer, and the project manager....

and when the meeting got started Bill was crazy. Talking about me as if I wasnt there. Saying that some guy stopped the development eventhough 15 minutes earlier I told him it was me. He was angry as hell.

....slowly but surely, it bore fruit that somewhere along the line the development or tearing down of the trees was a screw up. The site plan needs to be re-drawn for a 3rd time (pivoting the house clockwise - gaining 4 or so feet of room near the easement), the bank where all the trees are will now need to be sodded with the fibermesh sod (cross your fingers that it doesnt rain soon), the easement will be preserved, and if the buyer has issues we will replant pine trees to make up some of what was lost.

Now no one admitted that they were wrong or that I was right but in the end everyone was shaking hands, thanking eachother for meeting and getting the thing right. I was so happy that it went from yesterday, where Iw as the pariah, to today that they are actually going to try to right what they did wrong.

I wish you all couldve seen the project managers face when he walked up. The expression said it all.

The only thing that sucked is Bill's boss, got on the phone with me, and tried to explain to me how to explain to the buyer what happened. He said to tell the buyer that we followed the drainiage engineering plan and as it called for us to do that, it is what we did. He's trying to wash his hands of it, which sucks since he's much higher up than me.

Tomorrow at the meeting out on the lot between the developer, land guy, and construction, I plan on keeping my mouth shut but allowing them to see that I have the site plans in hand. Flasch186 Coordinator Join Date: May 2002 Location: Jacksonville, FL	so we all met out there today, me, Bill, the super, the developer, and the project manager.... and when the meeting got started Bill was crazy. Talking about me as if I wasnt there. Saying that some guy stopped the development eventhough 15 minutes earlier I told him it was me. He was angry as hell. ....slowly but surely, it bore fruit that somewhere along the line the development or tearing down of the trees was a screw up. The site plan needs to be re-drawn for a 3rd time (pivoting the house clockwise - gaining 4 or so feet of room near the easement), the bank where all the trees are will now need to be sodded with the fibermesh sod (cross your fingers that it doesnt rain soon), the easement will be preserved, and if the buyer has issues we will replant pine trees to make up some of what was lost. Now no one admitted that they were wrong or that I was right but in the end everyone was shaking hands, thanking eachother for meeting and getting the thing right. I was so happy that it went from yesterday, where Iw as the pariah, to today that they are actually going to try to right what they did wrong. I wish you all couldve seen the project managers face when he walked up. The expression said it all. The only thing that sucked is Bill's boss, got on the phone with me, and tried to explain to me how to explain to the buyer what happened. He said to tell the buyer that we followed the drainiage engineering plan and as it called for us to do that, it is what we did.
