Sack,
When you wake up. Did you get to see/play City of Heroes at all?

I did get to briefly see City of Heroes, yeah. I oughta mention that I spent very little time with anything PC-related, simply because we didn't have the manpower to cover both the PC *and* the consoles. I didn't see the LOTR MMORPG at all - that may have been behind closed doors.
I didn't even get to see the game I've been anticipating the most until about 1 pm on Friday. That game would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. nVidia had a booth demoing the PC version to show off the GeForce 5, but BioWare and LucasArts, as best as I could tell, were only showing it privately, and they never did return my calls when I attempted to get an appointment with them prior to the show. Microsoft, however, had two stations displaying the game near the back of their booth, and as soon as I saw that, I pounced. I wasn't disappointed, either. This looks like it's going to be a great one. Other things that caught my eye - 'Mario & Luigi' for the Game Boy Advance. It's not a true sequel to Paper Mario, but they are calling it a spiritual successor. Either way, it kicks copious amounts of ass. The new PS2 Castlevania looks fantastic, and the Metal Gear remake on the GameCube looks promising as well. The most *frightening* thing I saw at the show was the revelation of a game called "Karaoke Revolution," from Konami. It's like DDR, only you sing instead of dance. My mind is horribly scarred. I'm in the middle of writing an assload of hands-on previews for Gamenikki, so I'll check back throughout the day to either point you guys to 'em, or maybe give y'all a few more tidbits. |

Was there any news from the Solecismic booth? Is it true that Jim had his wife as the only 'booth babe' for the company?

Yeah, well, it ain't my fault that the PC games there are shit, other than Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

Yeah, but it also wasn't my purview, since one of my writers actually *has* a PC capable of running such games. Ergo, he got the assignment. (He was muchly impressed with HL2, FWIW).

Good to hear, I can't wait for HL2! ... and after watching a video for Doom III, I'm in total amazement at how realistic that game looks. I wonder what kind of system you need to run DIII? Six Radeon 9800 cards?

Just what the PC needs. More games where your character is a gun and you get chased by stuff. Yay.
