Do you like to fish?
I really enjoy fishing. Most of all I just like getting away from civilization for a week. But sitting on the lake gives you time to reflect upon your life, and think about things.
I enjoy fishing for crappie mainly, never really got into bass fishing all that much.

Crappie, that pretty much describes my fishing skills, but yes, I enjoy throwing bait into the water and sitting there waiting for something to happen.

I used to as a kid, not so much anymore. I think when I have kids, I'll probably enjoy it more if they want to go too.

I think I would love to fish with my kids as well. Problem is, I don't know how to fish and I think it was an opportunity lost while in Louisiana vs here in Germany. Ignorance is bliss however, so I have no idea if I missed out or not.

I enjoy too many hobbies to participate in all of them on a regular basis. Yes, I LOVE to fish for bass. When I was single (and before there were career sims on the computer), I'd spend 5 or 6 weekends a year bass fishing from Friday night to early Sunday morn with friends, and would have many one-day trips as well. I have three rods in my garage, but haven't wet a line in over a year. I am told that there are tons of good bass-fishin' holes in this area, but I haven't investigated yet, and then there's the ocean option as well, which I'd like to learn at some point.

That actually brings up something for me. I love golf because I love the enviroment on the golf course (minus the old hags that bitch about how fast, slow, loud, or crappy my game is). I don't actually enjoy the act of slamming an iron club into the ground three inches in front of the golf ball, but I do enjoy the view. It might be the same for fisherman. They don't exactly like sitting in one spot for three hours catching nothing, but they do like the enviroment/view. |

I hate golf for the same reasons. I love hitting the ball, but I just don't have the patience for it. |

I LOVE to fish, probably go 10-12 times a year, and wish I coudl triple that number...
but I sold my boat when my son was born. Me and a group of friends from college have an anual weekend trout fishing trip in NC, the crowd varies from 2-15...but its always a ball....and I know of NO better stress reliever, than just getting away from all the hussle, traffic, and technology, to go wade through a stream, cook on a fire, an drink til I pass out under the stars... |

My Grandfather loved to fish and when he passed away my father started going fishing alot. I think it was his way of coming to terms with his fathers death. He asked me to go with him but I rarely went being the punk kid that I was. Now that I am older I try going with him whenever possible since my own father is getting old. While I enjoy the fishing I enjoy the time alone with my father much more.

My father used to take me fishing when I was a kid, but I don't think he really liked the fishing. I think he just liked being able to get my attention. If he had liked the fishing, I might have learned to like it too. |

One of the reasons I bought my house was because it was in a subdivision with a 40 acre pond/lake. I could be in a jon boat and fishing (coffee and cigar) within 20 minutes of wanting to.
I fished alot my first 2-3 years but the novelty has worn off. The lake has bass (lake record is about 6 3/4 lbs, the neighbors I fish with have a informal understanding to return the big bass) and bream. It should have catfish also but I've never caught one. I enjoy the solitude and enjoy nature. I do take the kids fishing off the bank with crickets but not on the boat (they don't know how to swim yet). Its also pretty neat to have really fresh fish for dinner. |

The funny thing is that I've fished my entire life, but I can't stand to eat them. Yuck. I even hate salmon, which makes me an outlaw here in the northwest.
I'm strictly catch and release. |

My grandfather loved to fish and would take me out in his boat several times every summer when I was a kid.. nowadays I'd get too stressed out sitting in a boat for hours.. mind racing.. thinking of other things I could do.. thinking of other things I need to get done.. damning myself why I don't have my laptop with me.. looking for a pen and paper...
I'd just get bored sitting there waiting for some fish to drift by and take a bite off my bait..

We have various ways of fishing.. what I most often did with my grandfather was called "dörjing".. basically sitting with a fishing line straight down in the water.. ![]() Looks something like that..

Which part are you trying to knock the fish out with? The weight or the wood square?

I love fishing, and have my 3 sons "hooked" on it as well. I grew up fishing almost every morning of the summer, hopping on my bike and heading to the many ponds near the house I grew up in, in Massachusetts. We'd also head to VT or ME and stay on a lake for 2-3 weeks every summer and do nothing but fish.
I moved here (Charleston, SC) about 15 years ago and I just now have really started getting into fishing the saltwater marshes and creeks. I've been 3 times this week and caught nice speckled trout all week. Its been interesting to learn a totally new way of fishing, learning the best spots for certain tides etc. It is a great way to relax, and I love spending the time with my boys when they come along with me. I love to stream and river fish, but the ones here I hit you have to hike into, it's part of the get away from civilization for a bit, and up into the fresh air.

Love fishing... even though I haven't got out and done any since my dad died. That was back in 1994 and it would seem strange without him, but I'd love to get back out on the water sometime...
