A quick question about the salary cap

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to fill my brain with as much knowledge about football as possible lately. One thing that I have been trying to understand, but can't really grasp, is the ability to accelerate a player's cap impact, in order to use up the cap available for the season your in, and in turn freeing up future cap space. How does one go about doing this? Is it simply a re-negotiation?

And, i guess my follow up question is, how does one go about doing this in FOF?

Thanks alot for the help!

If you have spare cap space this year and very little next year In real life you could ask the player to take an increase in this years salary and a decrease next year e.g. if current salary is 1M and 3M you could offer 2M and 2M. But in FOF players wont renegotiate without a bonus. One thing I do is to renegotiate a long contract with a good player but increase this years salary and drop the bonus. I have done some research and resigning players seem to accept this with a 35% discount on first year salary. e
i.e. they will accept a 1M decrease in their bonus only for a 1.35M increase in their first year salary. The little bit of research I have done also shows that resigning players ask for slightly higher bonuses than if they were free agents if thwey are quality players while poor quality players demand ridiculous contracts and wont accept realistic ones.

Not that I know of. Renegotiations always requires a bonus in my experience. I've never seen away to shift future cap dollars to the current year. Mac's idea is probably as best as you can do.

I found this article about how teams get creative in ways got get around the cap. I guess all teams in the league do this but it gives a picture of how complicated the managing of the cap is in RL.
