Eve Online: Red Moon Rising

I see that Eve just released it's latest update, well I guess as of 12/16. Anyone here still playing? I actually gave it up after paying for two months of it. I'm considering signing back up as the update seems to have some cool new features, especially having dealt with ore thieving. From the forum posts however it seems that there are alot of bugs...anyone still playing and have an opinion?

Re-Bump: I've been playing again for a full month and can say that I'm pretty much addicted again. The lag issues have been pretty much resolved.

This being said I can't wait until the summer when they are releasing the next big patch and introducing the contract system.

Still nobody here playing?

Been playing since September and enjoying it. I played this during the beta and for a few months after it went live but was unhappy with the bugs. Love the new content and having a blast with the game now.

I just read an article about it and it looks pretty cool. It also looked like it wouldn't be very newb friendly. What do you guys think?

It's semi-newb friendly. Everytime I start playing again, it gets better. It's just not like the other MMORPGs. It's very free form.

I would play again, but now I'm in a good guild in WoW and that takes up most of my free time. (The free time from my free time, anyway...)

Small update to those still interested in the game; they are updating all their hardware today to hopefully solve the lag issues the game has been experiencing. 70 64 bit IBM blade servers...supposedly very fancy and pricey.

Alas this means the game is down...what to do with my day?

Anyone else here similarly addicted to EVE yet?

I have been tempted to play it for a few times as i enjoyed a lot the old Elite solo game that was based on the same idea. How is it for a solo gamer to play from time to time? is it enjoyable or do i need to join a 24/7 guild?

If you can log in once or twice a day to make update your skill training you can play. Solo play is also very feasible, even for the casual gamer. If you liked Elite or Wing Commander Privateer you'll like this alot as the trade system is very rewarding.

This all being said, those who play the game more will get more out of it. Also, joining a corp is a hell of alot funner than playing the game by yourself.

Edit -- Later in the game skills take alot longer to train...days even weeks, so the once a day thing isn't necessarily true.

I'll think about joining, but i'll be a dad in 4 or 5 weeks so i doubt that i will have time for online games as most of the fun is playing for long periods of time.

The game is rather solo friendly. It employs a unique manner of skill development. Each player selects a skill to advance and the skill upgrades after a real amount of time has past. The player does not need to be logged in. Initially skills take an hour to raise but the more advanced ones can take months.

The universe is divided into 2 sections, core and frontier. In the Core PvP is restricted in that NPC forces will show up and blast the pirate. This does not eliminate all PvP but does keep the new player safe. The frontier is a lawless region ruled by player corps. If you want to travel in this region you need to be part of an alliance generally.

Didn't want to ressurrect a dead thread, but wanted to see how active you FOFC players still are. I've become totally addicted after about three and a half months of this game.
I just joined a 0.0 alliance and got my Apoc ganked by BoB last night: Second greatest gaming thrill of my life, right below my first successful solo pirating gank. Nothing in MMOs compares to the Eve PVP system when it's not having its weaknesses (NOS, Nanos, etc.) exploited.

I actually just stopped playing. I wasn't playing a lot, so I decided to save the monthly charge (I played maybe once a week). The whole Band of Developers scandal kind of clinched the deal for me, too.

Not sure if anyone is playing but, I finally tried the game out. Actually, really like it. I was hesitant at first mainly because I thought it was very heavily PvP orientated and I wouldn't have a chance but, after playing a bit seems that fear can be put to rest.

A bit more of a learning curve than other online games I've played but, the tutorial does a really good job of working you into the game.

I especially like that your skills train while you are logged off so, while I didn't necessarily play the game on Saturday or Sunday, my character still made progress because I was training skills that took 12+ hours.

I was considering this game, but the constant allegations of favoritism and unexplained events drove me away.

I keep wanting to go back to the game. Things like that have kept me away, but considering the way I play* the game, 99.999% of that would not come close to effecting me. So that makes me want to play again.

* - I play as mostly a solo player, doing my mining in high-security systems, making my high-demand/low-cost-to-make ammunition, killing easy 'rats on the side. That's the strongest point about this game. You can play just about anyway you want to.

This is the reason I quit and moved on to other games. I liked EVE, but too many questions about this sort of thing popping up right now.

I heard the allegations and this is the main reason that I just decided to go ahead and play anyways. For the effort that I plan on putting into this game, I don't believe alot of this will affect me. Plus, I think the pessimistic side of me believes there are shenanigans going on in 99.9% of the online games anyways....

I'm a semi-regular player who's gone on hiatus. Early and mid-game are still a blast, but end-game (0.0 alliance PVP) is ridiculously broken as far as I can tell. POS warfare sucks all around. Lag is regularly impossible to surmount. Cap ship fleets are dullllll for any player in a non-cap ship. BoB, although probably not the cheaters they're made out to be, are a bunch of elitist pricks. The devs have, via poor judgement and a pretty insulting lack of concern for the player-base's perspective, consistently failed to clear the smoke from the various sordid power-abuse allegations. Etc., etc., etc. There are a frightening amount of problems.

I can't think of a game I have ever enjoyed more than I do EVE when engaged in small gang combat, but it takes some looking just to find a group to do it with, much less combatants against whom to square off. If you want to hold space you need POS's. If you want to take/defend space you need capital ships. If you want either of those you need to roll over for some crummy, gigantic alliance OR you need ridiculous amounts of isk, ridiculous amounts of time, the support of a very large group of players you've recruited on your own, and an immense amount of skill points. Essentially the devs have way over-valued the little toys of high SP players, killing a lot of the fun for anyone with less than 15 million SP in the process.

It seems like there's still a shit-ton of action to be had in empire, but I haven't been out of 0.0 in a few months. Not to mention, it's EVE's 0.0 warfare that should shine. Unfortunately it's struggling at the moment.

I think the first link is about a new scandel, while the second two are about the "Band of Developers" scandel that CCP admitted was factual.

I've always thought EVE was a great concept, only "ok" in execution, but reading about the politics and scandels in the game are far more entertaining than the actual game.

In other games? At a bare minimum, the sale and purchase of $ or items and/or macroing. Those are typically against EULAs and are a form of cheating but, it goes on. Not that either of those piss me off but, I know others go bat-shit over things like that so.. But, any time you have an online game, someone is going to try to find an edge.

The thing that gets me here is the devs for Eve play the game and are in alliances with other players. I don't see how they didn't see an issue with this and anticipate this happening at some point, but from what I've read they didn't even start monitoring what their employees characters were doing until the "band of developers" scandel broke.
