Realdeal website
For several days now I haven't been able to got onto the RealDeal website. I've talked to Marc, and he thinks it's only me. Is anyone else having problems reaching the website? The message I get is "server not found". I've tried going directly to pages, utilities, etc. Firefox and Explorer. Anyone have any ideas?

Steve, I've checked with my host and they say it's all fine and it's down to your ISP. I'll try and talk to some techies to see what they say. Marc. |

I had a similar problem before with some websites that I knew worked. (Google was my big beef). I had called some people, and they told me that the sites were working on their computer, just not mine. It baffled me for a couple days. My fix : Unplug my modem for a few minutes, and plug it back in. After I did it, Google and all other sites were fine.
Here's hopin' you have such an easy fix .Edit : http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=46032 Here is a link to a windows help site that I sometimes use (the link is to the thread I started when I was having the above problem). There are some other suggestions there. Last edited by DougWyatt : 08-10-2007 at 06:55 AM. Reason: more info |

I was having random issues connecting to secure sites. Turned out that the shunt they put on the cable box to keep me from getting any TV had gone bad and was randomly playing with my Internet connection.
The truly weird part was that ONLY secure sites were giving me fits...

Unplugging the modem did not help. I'm willing to try just about anything (the draft is coming up). |

No luck. I'm translating this from Hungarian, so the language may be slightly off: The ping search did not find the host braddersnet.co.uk
this is really insane. Last edited by Sgran : 08-10-2007 at 05:05 PM. |

Update, and request for help from any techies out there: I ran a virus check about a week ago and found a trojan horse. there were also three "changed" files, but I didn't think much of it at the time. They are: windows/system32/kernel32.dll
windows/system32/user32.dll windows/system32/ntoskrul.exe |

Has your ISP made any changes to your local exchange? It may not be this, but my whole town had problems accessing a number of websites due to a fault in the exchange...

Ummm... not that I'm aware of. My provider said that they did some tests and concluded that the problem was coming from my software somehow. Those files I mentioned before were not the problem. They were just updated by the anti-virus software and I had to approve it (or something like that). If this helps at all, I can reach the website in question through cloaking websites that allow me to get there anonymously. Could this mean the site's providers may have banned me either accidently or as a broader defense against a range of similar ISPs that come from Hungary (I heard somewhere that this can happen) in response to a hacking attempt? Or that someone tried to hack through me? Or does it suggest that I somehow worked around a hiccup in my registry? |

Okay, just to give some closure to this thread for posterity: A few days ago I realized that I could access the website (and sign in, download/upload, the works) by going through a cloaking website the allows anonymous surfing. Then, today, deus ex machina, I could log on again without any problems. My guess is that something timed out. Otherwise it's a great unsolved mystery. A mod can now file this thread in the X-files.
