Briggs charged with leaving scene of accident after crashing Lamborghini

Quote:
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after crashing his Lamborghini and leaving it alongside an expressway on the city's North Side, Illinois State Police said Monday.

After meeting with police Monday afternoon, Briggs also was cited for failure to give immediate notice of an accident and improper lane usage, said Master Sgt. Luis Gutierrez.

Briggs was released after posting $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear Oct. 4 in a Cook County court.

"As a result of interviewing Mr. Briggs, it was determined that he was the driver of his 2007 Lamborghini," police said in a statement.

Officials said the 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago, which has a Kelley Blue Book value of more than $350,000, had crashed into a light pole and was discovered around 3:15 a.m on Interstate Highway 94.

Bears coach Lovie Smith indicated the team will not discipline Briggs, whose "spirits were good for being in a one-car accident."

Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye said Briggs told him about the crash on Monday morning.

"He said that he crashed the car or something, and I had had to get to meetings, so I didn't have a chance to talk to him," Ogunleye said.

Briggs, who has not addressed the media since reporting to training camp late last month, did not make himself available during Monday's open locker room period. And he had left practice to meet with authorities by the time reporters were admitted.

Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was not available for comment, according to his brother Jason, who works for Rosenhaus Sports Representation. Jason Rosenhaus also declined comment.

Am I the only one who thinks that Briggs is getting away with drinking and driving?

heard this on the radio this morning. humorously enough, if any of the other MA guys were listening to WEEI, whoever the replacement "flash-boy" was tripped over the name, said it was Brance Liggs. made me laugh

Not necessarily. He could have been stoned.

Wow, did they ever throw the book at him.

I love the "improper lane usage" as well. I mean, wouldn't this imply that anyone who runs off the road is guilty of "improper lane usage"?

Pretty much. Just how much the cops want to be a dick to you for what you've done. With someone leaving the scene of an accident that was more than likely impaired in some way, I'm sure they are going to find everything they can to add onto the charge.

Sure as hell not going to shed any damn tears for Lance Briggs... I'd throw on a parking ticket to the heap too just for shits and grins.

I got into a 1 car accident when I fell asleep at the wheel. I was given "driving too fast for conditions." I suppose 1mph would have been too fast.

I hate that feeling when you're so sleepy, but can't really pull over. I never got into an accident, but a few times my eyes would open to my car JUST missing a curb. I'd be driving home at around 3 or 4am, and half-way home my eyes would be so hard to keep open. I'm not going to pull off and sleep when I'm 20 minutes from home... and in the city... but it was such a bad feeling. Trying my hardest to keep my eyes open.

I think the time I drove while most tired was coming back from Cedar Point. We got up super early to get there close to when it opened, then left after it closed. After being out in the sun all day (which I think makes you really tired), it was pretty crazy.

See...this is exactly why the Bears should have locked him into a 6 yr $65mil contract before something like this happens. I hope they've learned their lesson.
