Dad: Strip club bilked son of $53,000

Oh to be a fly on the wall when Dad opened up that credit card bill

Dad: Strip club bilked son of $53,000

FORT WALTON BEACH -- (AP) -- A father wants investigators to pursue fraud and larceny charges against a Panhandle strip club after his son ran up a $53,000 bill in a single night while celebrating his college graduation.

Joe Salter, 52, of Mary Esther, told investigators Club 10 employees took advantage of his 24-year-old son, Tommy. The younger Salter was at the club Aug. 18 to celebrate his graduation from Georgia Tech.

According to a report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Salter told employees he could only spend $600. But Club 10 owner Tim Beal said Salter bought at least 19 bottles of champagne -- priced from $150 to $2,000.

Beal said Salter signed a receipt for each champagne purchase and even scrawled his initials next to itemized charges. But the elder Salter said only the signature on the first receipt matches his son's.

The sheriff's report alleges larceny and credit card fraud.

Beal said Salter appeared to know what he was doing throughout the night.

''This fellow was lucid,'' Beal said. ``He was actually dancing with the manager, Chris, right before he left.''

Beal said he had already talked to American Express after Salter filed a complaint with the company, seeking to have part of the charge withdrawn. The company decided in Club 10's favor, he said.

Evidently Dad forgot that the strip club game is like the gambling game.

It's designed to hustle you, to get as much money out of you as you can.

The kid got straight up hustled.

Roll with it, papa.

Way to take responsibility for your own actions.

Unless the receipts weren't actually signed by the kid and were forged.

It has been a while since I have gone to a strip club so maybe this is the way things are now. Do guys actually go to a strip club and open up a tab? Also, who spends $600 at the strip club?

If the receipts were forged, then that would be insane on the part of the strip club. Forging $50,000+ on someone's credit card when they only charge $600.00 is going to get noticed and/or caught.

I am sure that some clubs might add an extra bottle of champange to someone's large tab now and then. But something of this scope seems too stupid to try.

But, hey, if the argument is that the kid's signature was forged, then take it to court. The witness list alone would be worth the price of admission:

CLERK OF COURT: "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?"

WITNESS: "Yes."

CLERK: "Could you state and spell your full name for the record?"

WITNESS: "Yes. Candi Goodknockers. C-A-N-D-I G-O-O-D-K-N-O-C-K-E-R-S."

ATTORNEY: "Thank you. Now Ms. Goodknockers, where were you on the night of August 18th?"

I don't frequent strip clubs. I have been to a handful of them at most.

That said, the few times I did go, I had a very simple rule. Never use a credit card. Ever. If there is an ATM machine in the joint or nearby, sure, but never, ever use a credit card.

Get the cash at an ATM before you go into the strip club. I was best man at a bachelor party and needed to get some cash at a strip club. The $30 ATM fee may have been just a tad excessive. (no, I didn't get money at the club after I saw that charge)

My question is why is dad letting the kid use a credit card that would allow him to charge $53k? Word of caution, when giving the kid a credit card to celebrate his graduation give him a credit card with a very low credit limit or give him cash.

I don't know about you, but if my dad gave me a credit card and told me not to spend more than $600 dollars on it, it would not have made a difference if there was a million dollar limit. Especially at 24 years old.

+1

Never mind the fact of fiscal irresponsibility, it's a breach of trust that the dad put in the kid.

strip clubs make too much money to have to resort to shenanigans like this. yes, Dad, the signatures towards the end of the nite don't match the initial signature because he was probably drunk by the 3rd bottle of champagne. and who orders champagne at a strip club anyway? you there to drink, or you there for T&A? the strip club i go to (actually, it's a lapdance club) is BYOB. you might think it's cheesy, but it helps. the money i save by not buying $25 watered down drinks i've put towards lapdances. you wanna be a balla and order up a ton of champagne, well, ballas don't charge, ballas got straight up cash. you also gotta know when to say "no" when a stripper asks if you want to order another bottle. she's not there to listen to your hopes and dreams.

if the kid bought 19 bottles of champagne, and they all cost the maximum of 2000 dollars...that only equals 38000...what did he get for the other 18k

and the only thing i would have to say to the kid is....

pix pls k thxs

I could take three of my buddies to Vegas for the weekend, fly first class, spend the weekend in a posh room, drop 10k on the casino and lose every penny, buy a threesome with two whores, buy liquor, great food, souvenirs, and whores every day for me and my friends, for less than 20k. Saved his dad 33,000. And at least you'd have lots of sex.

seriously. if the kid decided he was gonna drop that kinda dime on one nite he should've declared an impromptu getaway to Vegas. at least he'd had got ass out of the weekend.

amateur.

wow, look at the big balla, charging up a storm on bottles of champagne and playing grab-ass with the strippers. i'll take Vegas whores everyday of the week and 3 times on a jewish holiday.

Damn. That's only 18K less than Pacman made it rain with at Minxx in Vegas. Of course, he might have read this article and thought Club 10 was a worthwhile investment.

geez, guys...I'm not exactly a strip club expert but I do know that "champagne" is code for something else. the girl probably asks if you want to go into the private room and "buy her some champagne", etc.

even so, $53,000 seems like a lot for a bunch of stripper 3-ways.

That made me laugh. I have this vision of a guy going to Vegas and just whoring and gambling like a madman. And then, on his way home, picking up a Las Vegas sweatshirt for his grandma.

I don't have much comment on this actual story, but I just heard about this on a local morning radio show. The guy on the radio said that the kid went to the University of Georgia and had bought 19 bottles of champagne at $2,000 apiece. Of course, according to the story, he actually went to Georgia Tech, and not all 19 of the bottles of champagne were $2,000. Seriously, these are minor details, but they're not hard to get right. I think I'm more qualified to be on the radio than some of these guys sometimes.

Anyway, The Smoking Gun has gotten its hands on a police report or something regarding the incident. It just gets stranger. If the kid's story is true, he might have been drugged? hxxp://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/1029071stripclub1.html

(I find this humurous because, if it would have been me... this would have shown that I was clearly tanked)

Your honor, this case is clear. The plaintiff was dancing therefore, was clearly in control and knew what was going on.

You'd think the CC company would have flagged this. I know we made 2 purchases totaling $1000+ at 2 different stores and the credit card company called us within an hour.

My wife's card got flagged this summer because we went on vacation. It was a vacation that she'd told them about in advance. She said that she was going to be spending money in Pennsylvania and New Jersey over that vacation week. Still, they called her while we were on the road because she'd spent money in Philadelphia. We live in Pennsylvania, so I'm not sure why spending money in Philly would raise eyebrows, even though it's almost 300 miles from our home. Even so, she told them about the vacation.

Yeah, it's pretty bizarre that the credit card company just let this card get $53,000 charged to it.

Who the hell has a credit limit on their card that would allow a 53K transaction to go through? Wonder how many sky miles he gets for that.

Probably the same type of guy who gives his son his credit card to go to a strip club.

This "kid" was 24 years old? I picture him being about 18 or 19. At 24, I had a four year old kid, a house, two or three cars and about $53,000 of debt...

It was an American Express card, right? I recall seeing commercials about them not having any credit limit. That might have only been for business accounts though.

According to the story it was an American express card and they traditionaly have no spending limit.

It is weird it wasn't flagged.

I was flagged for pulling cash from an ATM at a Casino through our debit card, and then recently in Australia for doing the same.....
