Best QB you've ever seen?

I have to ask, because I drafted this guy, and I wasn't so thrilled about it. Lets say VERY quickly I was proven wrong. I was hoping for a much better looking prospect in the draft, but uhhhhh ... it ended up being something I've never seen before. This is his info page, after year two, but before hitting "End Season" .... this is insane.

Look at his overall rating ... in YEAR TWO. I did go out and get a mentor as soon as I drafted him, and he started from day one, but I never saw this coming. NEVER. EVER.

In the FOFL, possibly the most competitive multiplayer FOF league out there, my team landed a monster QB after trading up to pick 1.1

That is Brent Sedor at the end of his third season, after leading our team to the conference championship. He has turned out pretty good -- among the best passers in a QB-heavy league, plus he's annually among the "league's fastest men" and is usually the top rushing QB in the league, too. He's had a pretty good career for us, all told.

Just an update before the Pats-Giants game ....

Here is an update. 6 season's played, 3 rings won, 2 MVP's and just an asinine start to a career.

Using the new offensive gameplan files here, I started out using a play action passing attack to mask him as a young player. Switched to greatest show on turf because I had NO running back to speak of (I'm talking rated in the 30's). The last 3 years I started using West Coast offense. 2011 I kinda switched at mid season, but most of 2012, and all of 2013 I used West Coast offense. In part because I signed Joe Addai as a RB, and figured he could help me out as a pass catcher out of the backfield.

Anyway, this is silly!

A guy like this showed up and I tried unsuccessfully to move up to get him. He hit 99/99 after his first full season and has gone on to tear up the league. I hate him every time I pull up his player card at the top of the leader boards.

Just curious because I am new to FOF. What is it about these guys that you see before the draft that screams "cant miss?" Is it their rating or just checking out their projected ratings after the interview?

I think the rating is fairly useless. I pretty much ignore it. Combine scores are most important, followed by scout impression. Bars are good for analyzing the type of player he will be (run blocking/pass blocking, etc.), but should be given very little weight, especially if a guy has a low development %.

I hardly pay attention to combine scores, but I draft fine.

I just don't see how combine scores relate to most positions. For example, offensive lineman ... the only one I can see that would matter is the bench press. The others don't relate to the position at all. However I'm not going to draft based solely on who had the most bench presses.

Like QB's, what combine score implies accuracy, or ability to throw? I just don't see how it works. I could care less if the QB runs a 4.3 40 yard dash, if he can't throw.

I use a little bit of everything to make a decision. Bars, impressions, and the combine scores.

If you're actually interested, my recommendation would be that you step back from the world of real football, make peace with the fact that this is a computer game, and try to look at things with a fresh set of eyes. The connections between combine scores and player ratings are very important in this game, even if they don't make sense to you or to someone who doesn't know much about this computer game.

For example, a QB's broad jump rating is directly related to medium length passing.

I'll give it a shot. On the team I have now, I'm an annual title contender, so I'll probably just experiment with it in my later picks first. I don't want to reinvent the wheel when what I'm doing is working at the moment.

However, when I switch teams to start over with a crappy team (when this QB retires, probably), I'll give it a full on 100% effort to see.

If you don't go by combine scores, you can still do fairly well going by your scout recommendations and avoiding guys with low development. But you'll never do as well as you could have and you'll miss out on late round steals.

Have you read the thread about combine scores "What the heck do these mean, anyway?" or whatever the title was? That shows a correlation between every combine rating and attributes for QB's and RB's, and I imagine it's the same for other positions. For OL, I would imagine that speed would affect run blocking and agility would affect pass blocking, and I'm sure the others affect them as well.

Just out of pure curiosity, would anyone like to guess what Breedlove has for career stats before I post it? I'm currently in year 15 of his career. I have surrounded him with a very good recieving core, and very good RB's. Never had a superstar OL but it's always been solid.

One year in his career I used the "GreatestShowOnTurf" setting for the offense, and it was absolutely astronomical. It was SICK. The stats for that one year .... I don't even want to say. You'll see it. Anyway, any guesses as for career stats? lol

I didn't want to say because it's ridiculous. My roommate has been watching this in awe as well ... I've won 10 championships.

I haven't even been as picky as I usually am about making sure I at least have a 50 rated player at every position going into the preseason. Particularly on defense I've let alot of guys go. I've been breezing through just simming very quickly.

Okay, this made me laugh pretty hard. I don't believe this is normal at all. Look at his "Player of the week mentions"

Isn't it supposed to be an exact number? Not a rough estimate? lol

Either I'm blind, or you edited to make that question yourself.

Either way, zero times, I was ready to take over a new team, and the last 2 years I simmed the entire season almost. Year 15 I simmed from week 3 to the championship game, and year 16 I simmed the entire season including preseason without interrupting. I was ready to change teams.

I wasn't even aware that would work, but whatever.

whatīs the deal with 16 years ? Iīve rarely seen a great QB retire earlier than 13 or 14 years in, actually out off the retired career leaders in QB rating in my current single player, 6 out of 10 played 16 or 17 years with the other 4 playing 13-15.
16 seems pretty normal to me as the retirement age for a great QB in this game.

Canīt do screens right now, anyway :

In my current league San Francisco has 2 QBs with 95/95 (8th year) and 88/96 4th year), both players they drafted. Oh the envy ...

My favourite/best QB for me is a 4th rounder never rated higher than 52 but posting a 96 career QB rating and being part of 5 championship teams.
