Let the speculation begin.

My completely uninformed guess is that the announcement will be an update of TCY.

Gotta be TCY2. Before the release of 2k7, didn't he say that he was going to release a new version, and another one later of another product?

Heh. Can't wait to see the reaction if it's FOF2K8.

That being said, I think it is definitely TCY2.

A free updated version of FOF2k7 with a MP function that employs a drop down menu of your teams. That way batch files and all the other ways will not be needed.

Or maybe FOF 2008 with better support for multiplayer (like .csv exports, default html with customizable style sheets, web site kit, etc.)

An integrated TCY/FOF game universe with the games played in 2-D like a FM/WWSM game.

Damn that would be smooth.

Something makes me think the one-day sale is going to be for FOF 2007 and the announcement is only going to tell us what he is currently working on.

I am actually hoping that the one-day sale involves a new game and the announcement is a patch for an existing one.

Too many damn variables....

make a special announcement.
It seems that I rarely get this stuff right, but a "special announcement" doesn't sound like the release of an already-announced card game, or the release of a patch. It sounds like something new/different to me. I'm thinking it's the announcement of a publishing deal and/or the next game.

But as I said, I rarely get this stuff right, so it's probably a patch or release of the card game.

I hope it's not TCY2, I really could care less about college football. I'd probably buy it anyways, but it just wouldn't make me as happy as a new pro version of FOF would.

Shortly after FOF2K7 was released, Jim announced that TCY2 was probably the next game. He had it on his web site, and he said it in the Gamenikki interview that is posted in this very forum.

Quote:
Gamenikki: Last question, Jim. Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us.

Your aversion to revealing your projects before they're ready is well-known, and yet, on solecismic.com, you seem to indicate that after you get settled in Michigan, your next project is "most likely an update of The College Years."

That's just a red herring to pave the way for the smash hit release of Front Office Curling, isn't it?

JG: I have been known to change my mind early in the development phase. If I'm not at my best while I'm working on the toughest pieces early on, it's not going to go quickly or go well. But TCY2 is my intention right now. I have had some interesting discussions with people about the potential for different directions on the pro game, so if things change, they will change in that manner. I think it would be the best business decision, if I remain solo, to update the college game next.

My aversion to talking about future projects is more a belief that hype hurts you in the long run rather than helping you. But there's a balance there, too. I think people will be more comfortable knowing what I'm working on, even if they aren't receiving incessant hype or know much about the intended release date. It's always good to change things up occasionally. I hope to find a way to properly strike that balance between hype and uncertainty.

Thanks for the opportunity to discuss the game, Josh.

Dola: That's not to say that he can't change his mind or go in another direction, but just to say that he made it very clear that he may well change things up regarding announcing new games. I'll do some digging and see if I can find what was posted at Solecismic.com about TCY2.

I didn't mean to imply that TCY 2 won't be the next game, but if heavy development means it's still several months away from being ready to release, I'd be surprised if he formally announced it this early. I could be wrong, though.

I'm not following you, timmy. He already informally/tentatively announced it and indicated a willingness to change up from his former policy. I don't see where it would be a big shocker/surprise for him to formally announce it.

And for all we know, he may have started "heavy development" in the last few weeks since he made that comment. Looking forward to Wednesday.

I'm guessing that the announcement and sale are tied together. Sale on FOF 2007 and new FOF 2009. Or, it's a fire sale on TCY with a discount for TCY2.

I also think the announcement will be TCY2, but i think it will be an an anouncement about he working on a future release in 2008 (probably with the new college season), not that he will release it next Wednesday.

Why does it have to be a release of a new game? Couldn't the special announcement be something unrelated to the production of a new game or existing game?
