Injury, seriously?

My starting LG is OUT with Tobacco Withdrawl Syndrome with Unknown return. I'll let it slide this week as a bit of fun and variety in the game, and at least it's not a hammy or turf toe, but if this "injury" lasts the season and playoffs, I'll be disappointed. He better come back with higher endurance after he quits smoking (it's very low as of now).

I'll seen someone out for heat exhaustion, in mid November.

What team are you?

I have seen this with Chicago, however the next game was an away game down south, so I just chalked it up to maybe getting the "injury" at practice on a Friday/Saturday before the game.

FWIW, "Tobacco Withdrawal Syndrome" is essentially there because "busted for marijuana" is not.

So is it a 4 week "injury"?

I can't answer the question on how long the tobacco withdrawal will last but in my first ever MP league I traded for the best LB in the game and after 10 weeks he acquired severe anxiety and was out for the rest of the season. Came back the next season and has only missed one start.
Personally, I've never kicked tobacco withdrawal.

Search through the forum for this, it's been discussed to death in the past. Shoot I think Jim may even have something in his Q&A on the Solecismic page on it. Bottom line is you can pretty much expect the same thing from this as strained hamstrings or turf toe.

I had a player doubtful the entire season with turf toe. He even missed a few games because my injury setting was at 70 or so. Sometimes it's silly, but that's the way it is.

Guys that get Turf Toe in the NFL have real trouble playing during the season. That's not silly at all.

I think Jim exposed that as a myth at some point.

I think the silly part is the not knowning whether the player will play or not. It's not like the player plays one down or drive and then decides to throw the towel and sit out the remainder of the game. He either plays until he gets injured (new or old) or doesn't play at all.

I'd toss out the idea of listing injured players on roster a simple "can play", "can't play". There's nothing wrong with having (mis)information on opposing teams on whether their players can play, my staff shouldn't be able to have up to date medical info on other teams' players, and thus the probable/questionable/doubtful/out system works on that level. But I think the GM/player should be able to make that last minute change for "game time decissions".

Actually, I'm guessing that you can know for sure whether your Turf Toe guy can play. I know you can for Strained Hamstring, which seems to work the same way.

I have a totally different take, I think. I'd like to see injury info be more fluid, and change from day-to-day. Then as each day of practice goes by that week, you have to a) find out how much he can practice, b) think about what your backup plan will be, and c) figure out how much time each day you're going to spend working on that backup plan.

I agree that misinformation is good in this. For other teams, you should just get a generic injury report like the NFL requires (don't those change day-to-day also?), and for your own players, doctors won't always know when he'll be able to play, and how well, so wrong info is good there, too.

I like that thinking, but the way FOF works right now, I don't see that matching. There are no game engine stoppage moments in between two games, like in the Football Manager series, where you see the injured guys work their asses off to get fit in time to play in that once in a life-time opportunity to play against Manchester United. FOF doesn't have to be a total footballized Football Manager, but I prefer having a clear signal whether the player can or can't play. It doesn't have to be the same signal every gameday either, downswings in recovery are part of life afterall.

Just turn up "used injured players" really high. I've never teased out exactly where (and haven't tried it in 6.3), but I know in the past you could get a strained hammy guy to play just about every play (if he doesn't get re-injured, of course.)

My stud LT has turf toe so i'm not worried about the reinjury part.
