I use to wonder how much trouble I'd get in if during class in college one day I just went up and Terry Tated the professor.

The ones where I harm myself don't bother me. When I have bad thoughts about someone else, that's when I feel like "WTF--What possessed me to think that?!"

I think this phenomenon ties in to why a game like GTA IV is so popular. You can act out these fantasies without any repercussions or a need to feel bad for deciding to go sidewalk bowling.

I get this a lot, too. I think it's partially related to a desire to fly and actually fly, not that airplane rot.
And yeah, I get a lot of other urges too that I'd never do, but they still pop up there.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Far Side comics. Two construction workers are sitting high atop a build eating lunch. One says to the other:
"You ever get that urge? You start thinking about the meaninglessness of life and you ask yourself: 'Should I? Should I? Should I push someone off?'" |

Is driving with your eyes closed wrong? Sorry. My max was only 10 seconds though. 30 seconds is insane. I only did it at night on the interstate, too. Driving with no headlights is not a problem usually, I worry more about getting a ticket doing that one.

Actually I would argue the opposite given the that a majority of the members of this site fit the same demographic hence a different view on certain thing. In this arena I am constantly wrong and put on the defensive for my opinions where if the roles where reversed it wouldn't be so.

I have the jump urge.
When we were in high school we used to go to this old rock quarry that had filled up and swim there was like a 50 foot ledge we would dive off of. It was amzingly exhilerating, but everytime I went (I probably have been 100+ times) the first jump would take a few minutes to get your nerve up that you will survive. Sometimes now I just sit back and close my eyes and just thinking about it makes my pace quicken a bit. I also used to kill the lights and floor it at night. The onyl one that bothers me, is I have had thoughts of what it would look like to hit someone un blocked with a bat... full home run swing straight to the head. I wonder if you could pop the skull like a pumpkin, or if it would just thud off. |

life was great
til I made my big mistake oh no it'll never happen to me life was short and life was sweet I was thinking as I hit the street I could hardly beleve I could scarcely conceive but I had gone out the window I had gone out the window she was fine she looked great and so we made our big mistake I swear I swear I swear it'd never happen to her but the pavement knocked her head around when she hit the solid concrete ground from 30 flights above and she was thirty something loving nothing gone out the window she had gone out the window she had gone out the window catch me if I'm falling, catch me if I'm calling he was smart he was wise he'd profoundly philosophize empathy for all humanity 'til one day by an open window there's a note that read I've gone out the window - I'm dead he said yes to life for all of his life but then one day he said no I gotta go out the window we all go out the window catch me I am falling catch me I am calling catch me we are falling catch me we are calling |

I remember jumping off an old blocked off bridge into some water while in high school. 50 feet sounds higher, I would say the bridge was about 30-40. Still took some time to build up the nerve though.

I wonder how many people waste themselves each year closing their eyes driving. From our limited sample, it seems like there is a small segment of the population that does this. I would guess a lot of times if they crash, it gets written off as "they must have fallen asleep at the wheel."

I actually have fallen asleep driving before. We were in a caravan of cars heading out to Big Bend National Park. We left at 8pm, so we'd arrive in the morning. About 4am we hit US 285, which is the longest and straightest road I've ever seen. My buddy who was in the car with me to help me stay awake fell asleep. I started to get sleepy, and I guess I dozed off. I had a dream that I was driving, so I didn't notice until I ran off the road and the steering wheel started jerking around. I woke up and got the car back on the road. My buddy kind of half woke up and asked "Are we dead?". I was wide awake the rest of the drive.

I had one drive back to Dayton from a Monday night Colts-Dolphins game where I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stay away. Scary stuff.

I don't know if you guys are just messing around with the topic, but do you rally drive with your eyes closed? That just seems really really inconsiderate of other drivers and human beings.

I've had a couple of drives where I had to fight really hard to stay awake. One of the drives I had friends that were sleeping, so I pulled over and said it's their turn. The other drive I was about a minute or two from home and bounced off the curb a bit, so I must have dozed off. Never again will I drive tired if I can help it. |

I'll admit that I've driven with my eyes closed, but it was on a long and straight road through farmland. If any other cars were coming at me, I'd literally see them from a mile away before I closed my eyes. I only closed my eyes for like 3-5 seconds, though.
I do almost fall asleep at the wheel fairly often, unfortunately. I must not get enough sleep at night.

I haven't fallen asleep while driving, but I have had a few overnight drives where I essentially zoned out and didn't remember the last couple of hours of driving at all. It was like 2 hours passed in the span of 5 minutes, as far as I could recall.

Speaking of which, I saw this morning as I was driving into work that NIN is playing Rupp Arena in August. Do I dare?

I once jumpd in my car and drove of to Florida from Charlotte, NC.
I remember hitting the Georgia line, seeing Mile marker 12... The next thing I remember is reading mile marker 232 and thinking to my "WTF just happened?" I sleep-drove 220 miles. At night, at 80mph. |
