Axxon got me into 1 and 2 (never did defeat the 2nd one - maybe I'll go back and play it today.)

Diablo 1 was an incredible experience, i remember first finishing it alone, then we setup a network in our student's flat and finished it again playing cooperative with my flat mates. Those were good college years, Diablo 1 and Starcraft plus having a games addicted flat mate (like me) were part of the cause of me leaving college not finishing the studies. I don't regret now as it was when i funded my internet company in the late 90's.
Strangly enough as i loved diablo 1, i have never played Diablo 2. Dunno really why, i missed it at first as i was busy with work, then years later i thought about giving it a try, but i ended not doing it as i thought that maybe it could ruin my Diablo 1 memories and that the graphics could be outdated. Maye i should try it now.

I always enjoyed Diablo 1 better than Diablo 2. 1 had friendly fire damage and was simple and fun. 2 wasn't as tense and added complexity without adding fun. We'll see how 3 does.

Oh Yeah!!!!!
I loved both Diablo games. They were the games that made me realize that not all non turn based games were that bad. Action Adventure is still one of my favorite genres today and the Diablos are still some of my favorite games in the genre. Roguelike games with graphics I tell you. Can't miss.

That'd be cool. You would get to be the merchant and sell books and supplies to all the real adventurers. Oh, not THAT Amazon.

This much is true... I thought D1 was a far more focused game. D2 seemed to add complexity just to say, oh look, we can have desert worlds and jungle worlds, etc.

Hey I loved both games and see absolutely nothing wrong with wanting this one to be better. It kinda makes sense.

SHURG. I don't see how having different environments had anything to do with the difficulty myself. Just different monsters to kill. The biggest difference was actually toning down the characters which was a good thing. All D1 characters eventually could do everything the game offered so there was no real difference between the classes. Kinda like FATE. Fun, but it gets kinda boring.

Well, I think it was obvious that I thought they were overrated . I do hope they add more RPG elements to the game, though.

Bah, adding RPG elements adds complexity. When I wanna kill stuff I think Diablo. When I want an RPG I think Planescape Torment. SNIFF. I miss games like Planescape Torment.

Different environments didn't add difficulty (aside from wide open spaces making getting swarmed easier), it just added complexity. The biggest problem I had with D2 was that there wasn't as much benefit to teaming up. In D1, there were monster types that could decimate a particular character type. You had to stay teamed up to protect each other. In D2, everybody could run off on their own and never get into trouble. There just wasn't as much worry about needing to keep the friends close. |

Fallout 3 is coming out soon! I already killed stuff though in Diablo 1 and 2. I want a bit more rewarding gameplay for making my hand hurt through a click fest .

Wow, hadn't heard about Fallout 3. Looks like good gaming times ahead for me. If only they'd work on another Jagged Alliance game now.

Heh, I didn't play much multiplayer so I had the opposite complaint. I hated how many really cool runes and formulas were only available playing on their server.

When I played D1, I almost always played on the B.net server. It was the only way to be able to replay areas if you weren't strong enough to move on. I want to say that I played D2 the same way, but I don't remember for sure. My favorite Diablo days were LAN parties with college friends, so teaming up could be done without random Internet jerks. I don't think I ever played with anyone I didn't know. |

Had I had the ability to do that at the time I'd have definitely liked multiplayer but during those times I didn't have any local friends who were game players. Oddly enough, still don't have many.

D1 and D2 are two of my favorite games. Watching that trailer makes me want to fire them up again (but I don't have them anymore. ). Can't wait for this to come out.

Oh I remember hearing about this now and how it had changed to a first person perspective game. I wasn't impressed then but if it's using the Oblivion engine well, lets just say I love Oblivion. This could be pretty amazing.

Very excited to hear this. 2 was one of my favorite multiplayer games of all-time. I had some great times playing that. I wasted hundreds of hours on that game I'm sure.
Looks good also. Now we sit back for the long wait, as I'm guessing we're 2 years out from this the way Blizzard works. I read somewhere they said that the classes will all be Male or Female player selectable, so I'm thinking the Amazon is out, but something along those lines will probably be put in. |
