Diamond Mind Baseball Version 10 announced!

Diamond Mind Version 10 Preview

A Preview of some Version 10 Features

We thought you would enjoy a hint of what will be in the Version 10 upgrade, scheduled for release in February, 2009. Listed below are some of the features that will be included. As we get closer to the release date, we will be able to provide more details and we'll let you know when we will take advance orders for the upgrade.

New Play-by-play

In addition to our ongoing effort to add more variety to the play-by-play library, we have added three fundamentally new capabilities to the play-by-play system:

Pitchers can now be coded for the types of pitches they throw and for their pitching style. Player nicknames, which will automatically be added to your seasons when you convert them to version 10, will appear in the commentary. You can enter the name of a manager for each team that will also be included in the play-by-play. To illustrate these new capabilities, here are some examples from our testing:
Pitch Type:

GOT him looking!
Guidry with a blistering 96-mph fastball
for his 4th strikeout

and he struck him OUT
-- looking --
Lemon surprising Banks with his knuckleball!

This system is optional. If a pitcher doesn't have these ratings, you'll still get the same commentary you see in version 9c. However, we have started coding the best-known pitchers from today and yesterday. You'll be able to do the same through the Modify Player Ratings window and have those details reflected in the PBP.

Relief pitcher stats and manager name:

New York skipper Casey Stengel will go with Joe Page
this will be his 27th appearance this year
Page with a record of 2-2
and he has an ERA of 3.24
so far this season he's saved 13 games

Nicknames for Players:

here comes the Yankee Clipper again
flied out to center last time

More statistical splits to report:
home/road
grass/turf
start/relief
non-ph/ph
opponent

A Playing Time Limitation System: a customizable option to discourage overuse of a player. When it is on, a player's performance will be penalized if he is overused. You can enable or disable the entire system, enable or disable parts of the system, and set the playing-time thresholds when the penalties kick in. A great feature for league play with usage limitations!

Set the Weather: specify weather conditions for any particular day of the season.

More transaction types: for example, military leave and personal leave.

Check Scheduled Starting Pitchers: during a game, you'll have the ability to check the scheduled starting pitchers for the next four days.

These are some of the features you can expect to see in Version 10. Our goal is to include as many of the most popular, customer-requested features as time and testing permit.

Thank you,

Pat and Luke

I tried DMB once v9 but just couldn't get past the dreadful UI. It makes FOFs look like state of thart (sorry Jim).

DMB is a fantastic single season game that is trapped in a DOS interface and has very very limited customization. Despite that, the game engine remains rock solid.

I do not know if their engine already uses the DIPS principles, but it does produce great results and the play-by-play is extremely well done. A fine game for replay fans!
