Call of Duty 5 - World at War

Picking mine up at 6:30 tonight. Game looks awesome, and I am a sucker for the COD franchise.

I played the beta and it was fun. Not sure if it was COD 4 fun, but it was still awesome. The flamethrower is a beautiful addition to the game.

I always have been impressed with COD's solo campaign as well. Generally it's pretty challenging and it has a lot of cool missions, and I assume this will be no different.

So now after this I have Left 4 Dead, and then this marathon game buying spreed is DONE!

Fable II, Fallout 3, Gears 2, COD 5 and L4D. Oof, embarrassing.

I'm excited by the co-op campaign. I love playing split-screen co-op games. I wish more games had that option.

Are there many shooters that don't have this option anymore? Co-op campaigns are all but mandatory on this year's shooters it would seem. Gears of War 2 has one. Halo 3 has it as well. Resistance 2's co-op campaign is larger than the single player campaign. There's plenty of co-op goodness to go around.

I'm still not sure if I'll get this or not. I loved COD4, but that was the first FPS I've enjoyed in my entire life, and I only like the multiplayer aspect of playing with my friends.

Frankly, I could still keep playing COD4 and see no reason for a new one. But all of my friends moved over to Battlefield Bad Company or whatever a few months ago, so I guess COD4 is dead for me now.

If all of my friends switch from Battlefield to COD5, I will likely pick it up. But if they stick with Battlefield then I'll be giving COD5 a pass.

I know that Remembrance Day is not observed in the US, but it still feels a little wrong that COD5 is being released in Canada Nov 11. I really think they should have delayed the Canadian release until the 12th (which may be the case if stores are closed tomorrow, I guess, but I think a lot of places open after 1pm).

be advised, COD 5 is made by a different studio than COD 4. They do not have a very good reputation (they also made COD 3).

Oh wow, that makes it even more egregious. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive or something? I'm not a veteran, nor do I know anyone that is, but it just seems... insensitive or something.

From some friends I have who were able to play the game early, I was told that it's basically COD4 in a different setting. Even the trophies/achievements on this game are the same as COD4. That's certainly not a bad thing. COD4 did just fine and this one likely will benefit from COD4's popularity.

I may need to rent this, but having just got a PS3 I am currently renting and playing Metal Gear, which I am liking a lot.

Not particularly a Call of Duty fan, but what I saw of the Zombie multiplayer mode has me a little more intrigued.

Too many games though, this one is waiting.

I picked this up for my son today and he said he beat the game already. Now granted he was playing on easy but does anyone know how long the solo player game is?

Looks interesting although I kind of like modern day war games. Is the co-op the same as the single player story mode or a completely different story?

Finally got a chance to play for a half hour tonight. Went through the first solo mission, and it was about as pointless as I expected. Bring on the multiplayer tomorrow.

Anyone playing the PC version and if so are people abundantly available for MP? How does it run?

I never get 360 time anymore (my boys are Gears-aholics and only gets worse when they get GoW2 for xmas).

The wife rented this for me tonight. Not too bad. As someone said above, the first Russian mission is pretty cool. That is where I left off. I started on the 2nd hardest level which is usually not my style. Some more experience with FPS/war games lately has me improving my skills though.

I played a bunch of the game the other night, enjoyed it of course.

So yesterday I remember I can try online play, since this is on the PS3. The only thing I have ever really done like this is Halo and I enjoyed it but didn't love it or anything. So now I am deep into online play it seems, because I frickin' love this game online. Started playing last night and stayed up until about 6 am. Woke up right before noon and started playing some more. I may have to buy this thing now, mainly for the online play.

Of course I still do not have the 360 online, but with GTA IV sitting there I may have to try if I figure out a way I like to hook it up.

You should try COD4. COD5 is really good, but a bit disappointing compared to the earlier one. I feel this one, especially the tank maps, can get uneven and boring. I've also seen poor spawning AI and glitching. COD4 was sharper.

I'm not really one to get into games like this, I'll probably just stick to multiplayer. I've only been going with Team Deathmatch so far, and according to my friends a lot of the other games are great too.

I've been playing this about an hour a day during the last week, I've had a lot of fun but I'm running into more d-bags since Christmas.

Yesterday, I had a guy on my team blowing up my "bouncing betties" so he could get the kill instead of me.

Today, I had a guy calling me a faggot because I was running toward the tank that he wanted - even though I wasn't even going to get in the tank. I should've just got in the tank and sat there so he couldn't use it.

I'm finding I don't like this game nearly as much as 3 and 4. Perhaps it's just too much of the same thing but it doesn't feel like this game really has a lot of heart to it.

In MP for this game, there are some spawning problems, though I disagree the tank maps are lopsided. If you have a good team then you can blow up a guy in his tank in no time flat. Of course I seem to suck in tanks so maybe it's just me.

Tank maps are fun! Good players (not me) seem to be able to take out tanks in no time flat. I need to learn how, as it stands I just end up launching a rocket or two at them and then hiding from them the rest of the match. On the other hand, players on the same team as the guy in the tank seem to like to wander around beside the tanks and end up as easy pickings.

I have some of my best, and worst, games on the tank maps.

i'm loving COD5. it does seem like more of the same, but whatever, i played COD4 so much i was eager for something different. i don't care about tank maps. tanks are stupid - you don't get any credit for killing with a tank like you would if you killed with a gun. that is, if i have a blot action rifle and i need 2 more kills to unlock the sniper scope - if i hop in a tank and kill 2 people i won't get credit towards that sniper scope. i don't use them, they're slow and takes too long to fire, i rather be mobile and deadly.

i see no respawning probs, mainly cuz i'm too buzy busting suckas. why does anyone care what some anonymous stranger says? do what you want? i hardly play with a headset in that game - if no one is gonna talk strategy then i have no use for it.

haven't played solo campaign yet, for a game like this the meat and potatoes is the MP and i feel anytime not spent on MP is time i could've used to get more XP.

I just don't see how lining up a big row of guys and shooting at a bunch of other guys lining up directly in front of you would be any fun. Don't get me wrong, I love the Civil War as much as the next guy, but I just don't see how it would work in a video game other than RTS.

Had some of my best MP games today. 38 kills with only 3 deaths is easily my best yet. I have turned the corner with this stuff and working on erasing the horrible kill/death ratio I gave myself starting out since I had never played this stuff MP before. I have started to shoot through my prestige level 1 and about to hit 2 now. I also started sniping with good results finally, and have even learned to love the bolt actions even without the scope on it.

As for a Cival War version I would have to say no to. I can't imagine firing at someone, then waiting 10-15 seconds to reload. Though the idea of cannon replacing tanks would be pretty funny.

I can't imagine there would be much of a market for a game like that outside the US, and even then I think it would struggle.

Realistically the game needs to be set in WW2 or later so the game can use more modern weaponry.
