When I was young, my parents used to make cube steaks all the time. Which were shitty cuts of meat put through a 'tenderizer' and then were magically held together by gristle. The experience was further enhanced by about 1 cup of onions cooked with a stick of butter that were put on white bread (that was buttered also) and you ate as a sandwich. Of course, the bread turned into a nice gooey mass because of all the butter and grease.

I did not have a healthy diet as a child.

Our other feast was chicken hearts, livers and giblets that were cooked in gravy for about and hour and then served over mash potatoes. Actually, I didn't mind that...

I also did not have many friends over for dinner.

My mom did the same thing with cube steaks except without the onion or butter. Although, we did have "steak sauce" on them.

I've actually wanted to try that ever since I saw it advertised on tv. Sadly, there aren't any Ruby Tuesday joints in the bay area. The only one I've been to is in Alabama, and that was before they changed they're angle from TGI Friday's to something a little more gourmet.
