OOTP and Extensions
I can't remember how this scenario worked from my last time in the league:
You have a guy under contract for this season (1988). You are considering offering him an extension. So the case is: Current: 1988: $4mil Offer: 1988: $2mil 1989: $2mil What happens with the $4mil? I have vague recollections from last time that if I submitted this offer, I'd actually end up with an accepted contract of: 1988: $2mil 1989: $2mil 1990: $4mil So, what's the scoop?

Any extensions you offer a guy with ONLY affect future seasons, not the one you're currently in. So, the 1988 salary will stay the same, and the 1989 salary will be 2 mil. If you offer a 2 year extension, it will be '88 4 mil, '89 2mil, and '90 2mil.

So that screen showing the offer for 88 and 89 is broken. Nice.
But thanks, the explanation makes sense.

The faulty assumption is that you would make the offer during the season or post season, so "next season" or next year or whatever is the next calendar year.
