As far as Pecan, are we talking about the "nut"? 'cause I've driven through the Pecan-capital of the world I tell you.. Sylvester, GA along I 75.. and they say "Pee-Can".. and if anyone should know it'd be them, right?

Another favorite for me was Albany, GA.. All-BA-ny.

There is two towns somewhere (Mississippi? Alabama?) that are named East and West Albany. One side pronounces it All-BA-ny, and the other pronounce it All-beenee. Maybe that is why towns seperated?

I find myself mixing it up with words like envelope, either, neither, etc.

I've heard people call Cinci Cin-cinn-at-uh, and not Cin-Cinn-at-e, as it should be.

Also, my dad says days differently. Monday is Mon-dee, Tuesday is Tues-dee, etc.

You can always spot a transplant in the Pacific NW when they say:

"ore-ee-gone"

Locals pronounce it closer to:

"ORE-eh-gun"

I believe that both "CARE-uh-BEE-un" and "cuh-RIB-ee-un" are considered acceptable pronunciations by dictionaries.

I've never heard anyone say pecan any other way but "pee-CAHN"

One thing that's always confused me is why some people say "WARSH-ing-ton" - where'd the "R" come from? Strangely, one of my uncles said it that way and he was a lifelong Washington resident.

My cousins from Pennsylvania used to say "crans" instead of "crayons" and "wuter" instead of "water".

I used to think that was a Pennsylvania accent, but now I just think they're retarded.

Wuter is a Philly thing.

In Pittsburgh a lot of people say Wursh instead of Wash.

They don't? I have never said "axe" in my life. Its generally uneducated people that say "axe", in Virginia as well as the rest of the country (or at least the "south").

Educated, uneducated; all races, creeds, and religions- everyone here seems to "axe" things. I just don't get it.

Yeah, dunno. I was born and raised in Northern Virginia and went to college in south eastern Virginia and that problem was not prevalent, IMO.

Your missing the point. I thought you were more open minded. My mom is not a prude. Even if she is the ugliest girl in the world, she figured out blind people need loving too.

People think that a Boston speaker drops Rs. That's not entirely true. They just save them up to be used in other words that don't have an R.
