What do you do best as a player?
In response to a vote today, I started thinking about what I do best as a player. I would say it's these 3 things:
1. At my best, I play analytically, whether it's based on post, statistical, or voting analysis 2. At my best, I can help drive a conversation. This is helped because 3. At my best I am transparent in my thinking. I don't tend to think a lot before I write. I just start writing out what I think, and try to offer specifics for why I think that and that becomes my analysis. I actually think there are better players at all three things than I am (and unfortunately I can think of a couple people who are better at multiple of those things than I am) but those would be what I do better than other aspects of WW (for instance being a wolf, or using a role wisely, or being able to spot wolves as a villager). |

1. Catch hidden messages in posts, especially as a wolf
2. Generate theories that are a little outside of the traditional werewolf box 3. Get my point across in threads, either through volume of posts or clarity of posts 4. Attract seer scans What I do worst - pure gut plays are disproportionately wrong compared to where they should be statistically. |

I get better the more I play in a group - the players get easier to read as I play more games. USFL would attest to this - in our current and last game, I did/have done a good job of reading the opposition.

I have no idea...
But I will speculate. I think I am good at reading between the lines. Unfortunately I think that leads to trouble when I try to overthink things sometimes. I also think I am good at misdirection. If I think a wolf is just playing off what I am saying I like trying to push the issue a little to see just how many things whey will aree with, the more you keep them posting the more you can get out of the situation. The problem that I see with the above is that sometimes what I post may be intended to help me weed something out of a situation but my intentions aren't that clear to the others in the game so it may be a distraction at times. |

1). I have a solid intuition, nothing amazing, but solid
2). As the game goes on, I'm good at cutting through the crap that has built up and getting straight to the bone. I have found numerous wolves on Day 5+ just by their posts in the thread. 3). I think I'm good with the non-traditional roles, outside of seer and BG.

I'm good at losing.
Seriously. I've been in 7 games now, including this one, with 5 coming at my home site, and have only been on the winning side once. Last edited by USFLTecmo : 04-09-2009 at 12:28 AM. |

I would say my biggest asset is toeing the line and creating enough chaos to make the wolves not want to kill me at night, but also keep myself from getting lynched.
IT helps me when I have a role to stay alive, and as a wolf it helps because I can get away with more and people claim it's just Lathum being Lathum. I really don't go into games with an agenda to create chaos, but I tend to think outloud in the game and chaos tends to find me. |

I am an active player who tries to post analysis, think critically and play objectively not letting gut feeling get in the way of what is logically the best course of action. I think this has given me generally (current game excluded so far) the ability to at the end of the day make the correct vote.

I suppose I could admit to a few decent skills that work well for me, but what works best really depends on my role.
For instance, I don't think I am a good roled villager, for the most part. I don't take in the ramifications of it too well, or always make the best play. I also don't spot clues well; it's just too hard for me to do that, given my usual time constraints and my impatience to "catch up". But I am a very good plain villager, mostly because I am very good with information analysis and with making educated guesses based on that. But I think the skill I am truly best at is being nameless, and that helps me tons as a wolf. Countless times, people say they can't get an accurate vibe on me (or any vibe at all), and that I am generally slippery to lynch, for whatever reason. I don't know that I can point to one thing I do that causes this; I just note that it seems to be the case, with how often I slip later into games as a wolf (and also often as a roled villager--wolves also seem to have a problem pinning me down at times). Incidentally, this is why, if I am ever playing against "me", I am scanning me first if I have the option.

I think I have become slippery these last few games, but maybe that's just a temporary thing. I've had 2 or more votes every Day One since The Dungeon!, and I've not been lynched on any of those days. And I was only a wolf on one of those games.

I don't remember.
Oh yeah. I think I'm good at keeping my style the same whether I'm good or bad. And I don't get lynched very often. And when I'm into it I'm very good at rooting out wolves, especially later in a game. By far my worst point is that if I'm not engaged for whatever reason I'm very sloppy and generally unhelpful to the village.

I'm starting to. Multiple Day One votes FIVE games in a row. I mean, wow. Not just one vote, 2+ each Day One for 5 games in a row.

I was pretty damn good about causing mass chaos in Sparta. I may have made a new arch nemisis or two in the process.

Sorry you had to eat it in Hades USFL. I tried to think of a scenario where I could have both of us live through that day and I didn't find it likely. |

I was just glad I was able to do something worthwhile for the wolves, even if it was just to aid in a double kill. I only got two scans in, both villager, and the only one I leaked to Athens was that Lathum was the Ephor when I was on my way to Hades.
I was hoping to last past day two on Athens and really be able to wreak havoc. Instead, I got my havoc wreaked. C'est la vie. |

For a while, it looked like you were going to scan Chief Rum, and the wolf hoplite was going to protect him, so he would come up wolf even though he was a villager. That could have been fun.
