I popped in, posted that message and am now catching up. My idea, and remember I have no clue of the mission as I type this, was that we should try and get the trifecta in that we get the camp plus the mission.

1. I don't see it as a shift, necessarily. As I stated I felt that on this day, with us at full force and so much info out there, it made sense to go for both the camp and the mission. I didn't see any necessary conflict between the two. 2. If you are a wolf and you lied about having x3 and the mission fails, there is a 1/3 chance of you dying as a result. Those aren't the greatest of odds. I think the incentive then becomes not to let the mission fail. So while you might not be able to do 3x the work, you will keep your 1 work going, thus the 2 extra units of work is sufficient to still accomplish our task. |

DOLA - I'm also going to suggest our mission reward will come in some form of bonus in terms of the racial tension which has been hinted at.

I'm caught up, but I don't see anything all that interesting except more BK/Lathum back and forth on strategy. I'll keep that in mind later for when we need to vote someone out, but for now it seems we have everything covered today pretty well.

FWIW, I'm thinking someone can't fake partial work. It would make sense to me that we either do work or not and then the multiplier is applied to that after we make the decision. This is only a guess based on the logic I see.

Disagree and this strikes me as very odd from you Barkeep, almost like you are laying a trap for later. We have no idea how many camps the wolves need to win, I'm guessing it is much less than the 8 we need to win. Keep in mind that 1/3 chance could be a one time thing. What if the wolf avoids that lynch? There may not even be a lynch vote again for 2 or 3 more days. At that point who is to say he is even the biggest suspect at that point. I think you are all over the place so far this game BK. Very odd play coming from you. Why do we need to worry about putting us in a position to fail today just so we can catch wolves when all we have to do is convert 8 camps to win? |

Didn't see the number 8 before. That seems like an attainable number if we just throw everyone at the camps. This tells me that either missions offer something which can swing the game radically (to keep us from throwing everything at the camps) or there are quite a few "wolves" to start. The first day or two should start to give us an idea for just where the catch is. |

Limited success is still success in game terms, I think we just won some points with the Italiens for future events. Good job to the rest of you who went on the mission.
lets hope the camp comes into the Union tonight. |

I don't really understand the whole gladhandling, etc. stuff. I haven't had time to really get into the rules in-depth. What else can I do and what do they do? In the meantime, I'll try to catch up, but I might need some kind soul to sum it up for me.

I agree that this Urban fellow may be an ally. It will be interesting to see the results tonight.
I doubt that the game is setup such that we can blow off missions and concentrate just on camps. I'm remembering again the last Marvel game where missions gave a key advantage to the wolves. If we win camps but keep giving up these advantages we will probably quickly find ourselves losing ground. In this case, perhaps if we had lost hte mission the Sympathizers would have gained an ally instead. I think it makes sense to try to do enough extra though that the wolves would have to have two of them faking a job to kill it. We should make them stick their necks out. If one fakes the work and we succeed anyway, who cares? |

Nevermind, I found them. So, seven union members on Orate and 5 on Gladhanding. It looks like we should be good unless someone is lying about something. Which is a given. |

As several of you begin to gladhandle and speak publicly about the benefit of joining up with the UMW, you notice something very interesting. The miners are signing up in droves already!
It seems that the company’s lack of equipment to handle the emergency, and your swift response, have turned the tide in this town towards the union. Your successful completion of the mission makes the conversion of Monongah automatic. You have won this town. You have also won an ally. Peter Urban, a quiet miner from Monongah, WV has become an ally of the labor movement. While he is your ally, you will automatically win all missions that require you to respond to mining accidents. Perhaps there are no sympathizers at all. Tomorrow you will move on and tonight you sleep, fitfully, but well. Songs will be writing about Monongah, WV and the disaster that happened here, but you hope to use this as a turning point in the debate about miner safety, so that next time, the companies will be ready to respond quickly and effectively. Day One is over. Night one has begun and will end at 1 am EST. All of those with night actions please have them in by then.

I had been advocating for getting missions done, figuring there would be a reward, but not a reward like that. The ally is only a bonus, but quite a big one. Nice work everybody. |

By 1897, there were only 200 union men out of 18,000 miners in WV due to successful anti-labor campaigning and tactics, whereas all of the other states in the east had large majority union miners

My takeaway is that clearly we can't count on the mission working this way every day (if there is one every day). But that trying to cover all three bases makes good sense. I think knowing the specializations helped quite a bit. If we hadn't known the 3x fellows we would have put less people on the mission.

I think we just saw the results of the sympathizers laying low andwaiting until late game to make their moves. They allowed everything to work like clockwork and then saw just how good the result can be.
Great for us for day 1, lets keep our eyes open for what happens over night. |

Basically he wasn't sure we needed to focus so much of our resources on the camps, but after seeing the huge benefits we reape4d from doing so and still sending a good amount on the mission he sees that winning over the camps convincingly may indeed be more beneficial than he thought.

I didn't get the sense we would have gotten what we got tonight unless we had both a successful mission and got our work done toward turning the camps.
But I also didn't see results breakdown, which I thought we were getting. Question for the Mod: Abe, are we going to get a breakdown of how much work was actually done on each element we were to work on today?
