Wii lost more sales from year to year than PS3 had in both years combined.
Yep. Nintendo is screwed. |

Oh noes, the Wii is only outselling the 360 1.5 to 1 and the PS3 2 to 1! The sky is falling!

It's nice that you can actually go to a store and get a Wii if you want one now.

Ummmmm, that wasn't the point, but feel free to continue on that train of thought if you'd like. Nintendo has seen a steep drop in sales and has to be concerned with the trend. That doesn't mean the pecking order will change any time, if at all, but it's a downward trend that they'll have to remedy. |

I think that they had a great benefit from impulse buys. There certainly had to be a certain percentage of customers who were leaning towards buying one and got it if they saw it. Because who knows the next time you'd see one. Once they finally met demand it had to at least partially hurt sales. Obviously it is still very popular.
I'd think the fact they don't have "coffin" problems cuts down a bit of repeat buy buisiness. A DS player or a blu ray attachment(assuming that is possible) would be great add on peripherals. Last edited by stevew : 06-13-2009 at 12:15 PM. |

They should just leave well enough along. A $50 price drop of the Wii at some point would send the sales flying again. I could see them bundling the first Zelda or Mario Galaxy game in addition to Wii Sports to also provide a boost. Nintendo has a ton of options available as long as they pull the trigger sooner rather than later. |

Sooner = as long as it's before Christmas this year. Heck, they may still have good numbers, tho, as retailers will probably be trying to make their own bundles. Then do the price drop in the middle of next year to get one boost when they do it (presumably summer) and then at Christmas.

That seems pretty accurate. At some level, the drop in Wii numbers may have been an unfortunate turn for Sony. They likely would have been the only console price drop this fall and would have made a pretty big splash. The lower Wii numbers bring in the distinct possibility that Sony may not be the only one to make a splash this fall. Last edited by Mizzou B-ball fan : 06-14-2009 at 09:28 AM. |

The Ars Mole is passing on more information on the fall plans for PS3 and 360. Price cut is still expected for the PS3 in August near the launch of Madden 10.
Microsoft plans a price swap. 60 GB console will be replace by a 120 GB console at the same price. So, more hard drive for the same price............ Mole exclusive: PS3, 360 price drops coming this fall - Ars Technica |

We got some Little Big Planet + Wall-E PS3 bundles in at work this week. $399, same as the standard 80 GB model.
I've seen the Bond + MLB 09 bundles at Wal-Mart, as well. Seems like there might be a few of those bundles rattling around. |

Interesting article concerning the new development concepts around the 360. Looks like Microsoft is trying to put in an engine similar to what Sony has to make it easier to develop for the system.

Sony patents a new backward-compatible PS2 engine for the Cell. Good chance we will see all PS3's receive a firmware update to add backward compatibility to all PS3's at some point.

More news about the PS3 Slim. This article says some could hit the shelf as early as July. I doubt it. August still seems much more likely.
