Black Friday
Does anyone go out and attempt to shop that day?
Given the demographic of this community I would say most of us shop online. I usualy do because I have to have it shipped cross country but even when I lived close to home I wouldn't go near stores. I remember leaving work one Thanksgiving when I was bartending around 3 AM and there was already a line around Best Buy. To me that is insane. We have a friend here who is planning on going to some sales this year and asked my wife if she wanted to come along. My wife was like, OK, what time. Our friend informed her she was getting up around 3AM, my wife was like, F that. To me the hassle just doesn't seem worth it. |

I have a couple time but not for 7-8 years. My wife usually does. She's gone and back before I even get out of the bed.

I have in the past. I found that waking up at 6 AM will avoid the midnight shoppers, but still have enough deals that it is worth it. This year, I may try online Black Friday shopping... much easier.

I've never shopped on Black Friday.
While I sort of love the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, it always seemed like there would simply be too many people out on Black Friday and that would drive me insane, since most people irritate me.

I went to Toys R Us and a few other places on Black Friday one year while I was married. I don't know how much money you'd have to pay me to do that again, but I can tell you with certainty that $1000 isn't enough.
I'll see what kind of online deals are going on. |

Butter and I go out on Black Friday. We are planning on being at Toys R Us at midnight this year (that's when they open). It's almost like a game to see how many deals we can get that day.

I did last year only because I wanted to replace my Xbox that had died and there was a deal at Walmart.
I'd rather not experience that again. I'm not sure that you can't get better deals than Black Friday throughout the year and it is now just an opportunity to unload crappy stuff to people that don't pay attention.

I'm sure some people go there with a set list ("I was going to buy X number of presents for people, and I will save a significant amount of money doing it this way"), but I'm curious how many people just go for "the deals" and they end up spending more on a bunch of crap that they don't need than they would have if they paid normal retail prices for what they do. |

Can't say I have. What kind of deals are out there? Are they really worth it? The way people get all worked up over this makes it seem like they practically give things away on Black Friday.

I know the TVs we bring in for Black Friday are usually pretty questionable in quality.
I usually like working, I can make several hundred dollars that day. |

We plan it almost like an attack. We make lists of what stores open when and what we want from each store. I think you have to plan it to death if you are going to save a lot of money. If you want to know about this year's deals go to: Black Friday Ads and Black Friday Ad Scans for 2009 at BlackFriday.info! |

I will add that I absolutely hate when people expect you to explain a product in detail when it's a doorbuster special. Especially if it's a special purchase item.
I got a line full of people here who are buying with virtually no information. Either purchase or don't, I don't give a fuck. But I'll be goddamned if I sit and explain what a QAM tuner is to you at 430 in the morning with a line full of people. |

I tried it twice but both times, the system was just too maddening (there were lines for "vouchers", and the another line to get the product, with only a limited number of "vouchers".
Not the way I want to spend a holiday. |

Yes, but no door busters for me. I mainly go online to get the great specials and then late to avoid the crowds.
Last year I purchased a 46" LCD TV online and EAs Head coach at Walmart.

And yet people wonder why so many retail outlets have laid off employees only to discover that they run just as well without a lot of them. You really ought to consider shoving that techier-than-thou attitude up your ass, and you're extremely lucky someone hasn't done it for you.

I'm speaking primarily of doorbusters Jon. The rest of the year I'm way more patient. Timed sales with price point being the only factor in purchase does not work well for lookers.

Yes, and those people who know what they want (and want to get it before the time is done) are going to be none too happy if all the attendants are taken up by people who can't make a decision.

I worked Black Friday twice. Once at Best Buy, and once at Toys 'R' Us. Not only do I not go shopping on Black Friday, but I have an idea for a video game where you go into a store on Black Friday with an Uzi just start blasting people.

I went out for the first time a couple years ago for Black Friday shopping. My mom was in town and we went with a girlfriend of mine just for the experience. It was fun! We stopped at Starbucks first to get prepped then hit the mall. We went to target first and last. The line literally went all the way around the store. We took turns shopping while one person stood in line.
The sales clerks brought candy throughout the line to keep everyone's blood sugar up - smart thinking! I won't be going out this year, but a lot of stores here are doing 3 day sales to help alleviate the craziness. |

After previously working in retail electronics for 8 years, hell no! I will not step foot inside a store on Black Friday.

Its become a tradition for me and my father to get to Fry's at about midnight and shoot the bull for 5 hours til the store opens. We usually have a good time and get whatever we want without much problem.

Actually, having worked Black Friday retail at three different stores in the past, I find I get -more- pleasure out of shopping on Black Friday. The whole schadenfreude thing of "Glad that's not me anymore!"

I bet they could make a pretty cool Black Friday video game. Just add a zombie outbreak to the huge crowds, and suddenly you have zombie-fueled mayhem!

Said yes on poll, but only shop online, so probably should have said no based on what the question was designed to measure.

I go out but not till after 4pm. Kohl's usually has sales going on then too, and I get a ton of work clothes for cheap.

Sears is door bustering a 50 inch LG PS11 1080P plasma tomorrow at 7. I believe it is $879.99. It isn't a normal model we carry. But I think it is probably going to be a very nice set. I think it is another 10% off with Sears card.

I don't do Black Friday anymore after the time I had to use my best fullback slam to stop a crowd from stampeding an old lady. No piece of shit deal is worth making an ass of yourself, but sadly the cattle don't understand that.
