FOOL 2048 Offseason

The big discussion needed for this offseason is probably one about retraction.

Holidays always seem rough for FOOL. I get slammed with work and projects due before the year end, leaving me less time for stuff, meaning I rush through it and enjoy it less. It seems that I'm not alone in that as we always end up with people needing to drop because of time committment and such.

Right now we have 4 empty teams in FOOL and I was unable to even replace one team, much less four. I think my plan right now is to try to manage through the holidays and once we get through January re-evaluate everything. If we still have 4 empty teams, I think we need to consider retracting some teams.

This has been on my mind, too.

We have another option, but I don't know how popular it will be. I know it wasn't entirely popular before, but...

...we might need to consider making the jump to OOTP10 to increase our pool of potential owners. There just aren't that many players around still using OOTP9.

BTW, who are we missing right now anyway?

I know the guy who was to take over for DC never really showed up, so New York is open. And ekcut has his personal issues you mentioned, so Edmonton's open. Am I forgetting who else is no longer around?

Did muns take off time for the college basketball season again?

bz left? I knew I hadn't seen him in a bit, but he rarely posted, so it was hard to tell. Buckinbronco, that kinda seems familiar. When did he leave?

Any reason why or did I just miss that? That sucks they left. Good owners (if quiet, on bz's part).

Surprised to hear bz left. Wonder if the grind of having too many teams got to him. I guess people do get burnt out on OOTP.

I'm down for moving to X.

I think it is the holidays honestly. This happens every year, and we nearly shut down for good after last year's holidays. I don't want to overreact here which is why I wanted to let stuff slide until next year.

As for upgrading to OOTPX, I'll leave that up to you all, but since nearly half of the current members don't own ootpx, I'm wondering if that would do more harm than good.

FOOL 9 will be my primary league until it closes its doors. I like the pitching model in 9 much more than X.

I could probably babysit a team if that would help.

Im going to be very sporadic. I exported for the season but didnt have the time to re do my free agents over the holiday sims, and thus let my big pitching stars go to other teams.

so i highly doubt ill be much of a factor for the next 6 months due to my time factor.

Id understand if people wanted to close up shop, especially if alans doing so much work for 2 people. So dont keep it around on the account of me if im one of those 2.

Hope all had a nice holiday

I don't want to lose Tim or Teach by moving to X, even though I like it more. I can babysit a team if need be as well.

Hey Tas, I have X and would stick with the group if we migrated to X for this league, I'd just miss 9. I told Alan I'd be around long haul when he expanded 2 leagues to include me, so I am. Is all. Plus if enough teams go to AI control maybe I can make the playoffs. Once.

Back to the above discussion I think we should always have space available for people who are committed to playing but I don't know if we ever really needed to expand to those two extra teams. I love having Tim around but I think there probably would have been a space for him on an existing team soon enough based on our current predicament. And the lag, as you guys know, always happens around now. People like Muns will come back after basketball season because we're irresistible! I say that if Alan (especially) needs a break and family time, we take a real and prolonged holiday break, downsize two teams, and come back refreshed after the new year. What say you?

With the holiday I usually cut the sims in half over Christmas / New Years just due to all of the traveling and such anyways. I don't personally need any more of a break than that myself. As for the downsizing, I actually have come to find that i despise this 14 team schedule that I created as it makes all kinds of things rough. My thinking would be if we did downsize in January, it would be back to 12 teams and just leave things at a very managable number with two AI teams that could be replaced if people come back after the holidays or we get new people.

Well I know I'm going to have very limited access for about a week and a half around Christmas due to my laptop dieing. I'm gonna hijack a computer or two where ever I go, but its just gonna be a little difficult to keep up I'd imagine. I'd be totally fine with a little break and reorg for the holidays.

I'm selfish. I can keep playing through the holidays.

That said, of course, if it works best for us to take time off, then I can deal with that. I do agree we should look to retact at least two teams, to get us back to the level we were at before the last expansion.

I am fine with using OOTP9 or OOTP10, but I threw it out there as something we may need to consider for the long term good of the league. Given a choice in a vacuum, I would continue on with OOTP9.

dola,

As for actual in game happenings, darn, I sorta figured Chavez would continue to turn me down. I have to think he will be the best free agent available; probably the best one in a long while. Well, I'll throw out there that I'm not going to lose him without a fight.

Although the biggest concern is probably from the AI teams. They don't care that he's asking for too much money, they'll just wheel the money carriage right up to him.

Out of the blue I did get someone interested in a team email me through the webpage this morning, and think I can fill one team with someone, so we might only be down to two vacancies.

I still would like to play through and not take a full break though. Just slow down to every other day sims through the holidays, starting the week of the 21st for two weeks if that is ok with everyone.

The 2 weeks around Christmas are actually the best for me, until Monday the 21st I have youth basketball and school concerts and shiz almost every night. So I'll follow whatever schedule gets posted.

Good news about the prospective new owner. Make DC un-screw the Terriers.
