FOOL 2050 Offseason Thread

Hey, we were doing a sim today, right? If I have it correct, today is arbitration/amateur draft.

Do I have that right? Alan? I know you're busy; just checking to be sure.

I'm willing to part with one of my highly rated, arb eligible guys (Betancourt, Ishikawa, others) for a passle of young talent. As much to make a deal and put something new in the trade forum (last trade, 11/21!?!? Really!?). You do the work, I'll do the accepting.

Monday, November 29th, 2049:FOOL News: Free Agents File
Today marks the start of the FOOL free agency period.

Clubhouses across Front Office Offseason League were already abuzz with rumors as players began filing at midnight. They will be able to negotiate deals with any club in the league.

Once the first major signing is announced, teams will scramble to gobble up whatever talent they can reasonably get. The only thing that is certain is that there will be a lot of new faces in the clubhouses at the start of next season.

Media analysts expect the biggest news to center around a handful of free agents, including:

1. Jim Hawkins, 28 year-old catcher
2. Carlos Correa, 30 year-old starting pitcher
3. António Venagas, 32 year-old right fielder
4. Robert O'Reilly, 27 year-old reliever
5. Gerard Burrow, 35 year-old right fielder
6. Félix Cantú, 28 year-old left fielder
7. José Rodríguez, 27 year-old center fielder
8. Marcos Rodríguez, 37 year-old starting pitcher
9. Xi-tong Huo, 36 year-old center fielder
10. George Shippy, 33 year-old starting pitcher

Good draft for Hyannis, considering position. Rocha may already be too old to reach his full potential, but Prowse is a useful part for a second round pick, and Bowen was actually on my list in the first and third rounds.

Monday, November 29th, 2049: Santos Gets Call From Hall
All-time he played in 2271 games, batted .307 with 325 home runs, 2731 base hits, 1457 RBIs and 1642 runs scored -- stats great enough to be acclaimed a baseball immortal.

Ramón Santos was officially inducted into the Front Office Offseason League Hall of Fame today.

At his Hall of Fame induction, the superstar right fielder told the audience the secret of his success: "I was born to be a ballplayer... I also practiced a lot. Sunup to sundown in the summertime my brothers and I would be on the ballfield. We did it every minute we could. Boy, I loved to play baseball. Still do, and still would, if I could. I always got a special kick on opening day, no matter how many you went through. I looked forward to it like a birthday party when you're a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen."

One of his manager's summed up his career very well: "You saw him standing out there on the diamond and you knew you had a pretty darn good chance to win the baseball game."

A. I coulda sworn there was a time we didn't have such a long waiver period.
B. He's so great, he should just go in.

That's cool. The two for this year are two of the best hitters in FOOL history.

Shame that bronco ain't around to see Santos get in.

We didn't use to have the waiting time. I added it back like 2 months ago or three just to make it a little more interesting (at least for me) to have a chance to reflect after the fact about older players.

Looks like you have a new export up, so it must have come through after I started simming forward. Sorry, there is no way to add it in after I advanced the day though.

That's okay, the one new offer I made in free agency, the target didn't sign with anyone.

The new file is up! We are taking another quick break for New Year's and then come back for the 90th season in FOOL history next monday evening for a live sim! We get back on schedule at that point.

Also, a little birdie told me that it is Hyde's birthday tomorrow, so wish him a happy one!

The Edge is ready to cut you all so don't get too close! After a kickbutt spring training I now have the pleasure of welcoming twin bombers Cannon and Barrow in the outfield. I also now have a pitching staff. 7 pitchers coming in to help my limping staff that can't even fill a roster.

Someone tell the new kid that spring training is the most variable indicator of success since the VI.

If you weren't talking so much smack Mr. Fox, I'd tell you I like what you've done with the team...but as it is, I'm hoping for a repeat...so I'm very maturely sticking my tongue out at you in welcome.

I fell victim to season confusion, I mixed up when and if old-FOOL was simming next, so I have an incomplete and inadequate roster. Fans of Hyannis need to brace for EXACTLY the sort of season indicated by spring training results.
