Dusting off the Ivy: A TCY Dynasty
It's been a very long while since I've played TCY -- long enough that it's almost like I don't even know how to play anymore. That all is about to change.
I've reinstalled the game, patched it up, changed the college names that I want to change, changed the conference names, and set up the Solecismic Eight in New York to be the Ivy League. I didn't mess with weather, but I've got the longitude and latitude set up. I'm not sure what the rivals are, but I'm fine with that. Here are the options I'm using: Coach Movement - High Level - All Star Hire/Fire Coaches - Yes Include Suspensions - Yes Use Bowl System - No Random Team Reputations - No Random Conference Reputations - No Random Academic Reputations - Yes I'm not sure where I want this dynasty to go long-term, as far as Coach Movement goes. I figure I'll keep it on High so I keep having a lot of options. I'm leaning toward seeing if I can build the Ivy League into a powerhouse conference, team by team -- so when I make one team awesome, I'll jump ship to another team in the Ivy League, until they're all good. In the present, however, I need to choose a team. This will be a semi-interative dynasty -- anyone reading this and interested can act as boosters for the school. But first, I need to choose a school. The first person to post gets to choose which school I will start out coaching: Brown Columbia Cornell Dartmouth Harvard Pennsylvania Princeton Yale |

Good to see all these TCY dynasties popping back up, hopefully someone takes notice
I always play the Ivy in my game and here are the rivalries as far as I know. Harvard - Yale (of course) Columbia - Dartmouth Princeton - Penn Brown - Cornell |

It depends on how you rename the cities. I didn't put enough thought into it. It looks like I ended up with: Brown - Columbia Dartmouth - Yale Harvard - Pennsylvania Princeton - Cornell Those rivalries aren't ideal, but I'm not too broken up about it. |

Thinking about this some more, I'll probably go in and set up the rivals as such:
Harvard - Yale Princeton - Penn (pretty close to each other) Columbia - Cornell (the two schools actually in NY) Dartmouth - Brown (the only two left) While I'm at it, I'll fix the weather to make it more appropriate. I'm still looking for a suggestion on which team to start with. |

Princeton - although the BYU fan in me says go with Yale just because of the colors and logo - LOL.

Heh. Princeton it is. One thing that I remember about TCY that always annoyed me is that the overall scores often didn't match up with the red and green bars, and I never knew which to believe. I'm considering doing some kind of "fog of war" style, where I don't look at the Scout Overview page, and maybe even don't look at the red and green bars, instead just going based on how they look at HS, and how they perform in games. Thoughts? |

Princeton and Yale actually have a greater hatred of each other than Harvard and Yale I'd argue.
Columbia/Cornell makes sense though, as does Brown/Dartmouth. I'd actually go Princeton/Yale and Harvard/Penn, but you can make the case either way

The above rivalries are what I am using now. Here's the rest of the info I used -- longitude and latitude are based on the actual location of the school, and the weather info is based on the weather info of a nearby city in the TCY universe. Quote:

This will probably come up often as the dynasty goes on -- does anyone know how I can improve formatting in these situations? Also, I was checking out TCY Helper last night, it looked really cool. Does anyone know how I can change my school's name from "Solecismic #4" to "Princteon"? |

Since excel won't take anymore your best bet for formatting is probably word pad with code tags. Last edited by BYU 14 : 12-11-2009 at 12:58 PM. |

You mean just putting a (code) and (/code) before and after my text?

I'm looking forward to this one, Passacaglia. I'm currently playing an Ivy League dynasty in Draft Day College Basketball, and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Good luck with the Tigers. I'll be following along. |

Yep, you have to copy it from note pad though, then paste it and highlight it and click on the code tags. Code:

I'd like to get the TCY Helper data in here, but I'm having a little trouble printing it to file. If anyone knows what to do there, that'd be great!

It looks like at this stage in the game, I'm unable to set the time blocks. That's kind of a relief -- I was going to use the settings suggested by TCY Helper, but that would take a while. I'll keep an eye on it.

Okay, it *has* been a long time since I played TCY, apparently. How do I continue? I went to simulate games, and there are no games -- that sounds familiar for Week 1 in the first season from what I remember. But, shouldn't the button be active, so I can get through the week?

Well, I don't know what the deal was, but if I start a new game, the options to recruit and simulate are not grayed out. So we're starting over! Hopefully I didn't enter the registration key incorrectly, and this doesn't come up again. EDIT: Looks like that's what happened. I started over again, and was able to go into the recruiting and all that, but once I checked out the Scout Overview, the recruiting and simulating buttons were grayed out again. So I've reinstalled. Since I restarted, I did a little tweaking to the city information to set this up:

Just curious, where do you set these things?
I get the TCY itch occasionally and there's a chance I might want to play the Ivy League come late April/early May.

Game, then Edit City Information.
Before doing that, you should start a game with NY as the Solecismic 8, then click on each team to find out what the rivalries are, so you can plan out which NY city should become each school. |

I'm getting an invalid location error when I try to enter 71.11 for Harvard.

What version of the game are you using? I got similar errors when entering some of the locations, because for some reason, the game limits where you can put a city in an attempt to make sure you're keeping the city in that state. So Harvard could still be at the proper latitude, but I had to make the location a little further west, I guess at the same longitude as the easternmost tip of Long Island. The reason I asked what version you're using is because when I entered in 71.11, the game told me what the minimum longitude I could enter was.
It's annoying, and I'm not sure why Jim decided to limit customization this way (I mean FFS if you're going to let me edit the city info, let me put it wherever I want), but you can still get most of the locations right, and the rest are really close. |
