IR Greatest TV Show Tournament: Round 1, Bloc 7
We're starting to a few double-digit seed upsets now and it'll be interesting to see if the trend continues.
In the Eaglesfan27, #3 seed Family Guy fences #14 seed Northern Exposure for the right to play #6 seed Firefly in Round 2. Family Guy Animated Fox show ran from 1999-2002 before being canceled after its third season, but like with many shows in the tournament, strong DVD sales and a huge fanbase led to its return in 2005 and it's been running ever since then. The show has won 3 minor Emmys and was nominated for the 2009 in Outstanding Comedy Series, the first animated show to receive such distinction since The Flintstones back in 1961. Northern Exposure CBS dramedy series with a run from 1990-1995. Won two Peabody awards in 1991 and 1992. Nominated for 57 awards and won 27, including the 1992 Emmy for Outstanding Drama series. One of the most decorated of the low seeded shows in the tournament and perhaps underrated. In the Izulde region, #4 seed The Wonder Years plays #13 seed 6 Feet Under to go against Band of Brothers in Round 2. The Wonder Years ABC dramedy that ran from 1988-1993, for 6 seasons. Premiere episode aired after the Super Bowl. Won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series after just 6 episodes and 13 year old Fred Savage was the youngest ever actor to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy Series Emmy. Won a 1989 Peabody and 22 awards in total, nominated for 76 in all. 6 Feet Under Ran from 2001-2005 on HBO. Considered by several critics as one of the greatest shows of all time, this funeral home drama won 3 Golden Globes, including the 2001 Best Drama Series, and 3 Emmys in its run and was nominated for many more. For the Solecismic, we have #8 How I Met Your Mother vs #9 seed Quantum Leap to get the unenviable second round matchup against #1 overall seed Seinfeld. How I Met Your Mother CBS sitcom that began in 2005 has won 6 Emmys to date, 4 of them consecutively in the category of Outstanding Art Direction (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). Recently renewed for a 6th season. Quantum Leap NBC sci-fi series aired from 1989-1993. The time-traveling themed show won 2 Golden Globes and 5 Emmys during its run and spawned an 8 year run of novels and a 3 year run of comics based on the series. And finally, in the Pumpy Tudors, #7 Buffy the Vampire Slayer plays #10 Saturday Night Live for the right to play #2 seed The West Wing in the second round. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Joss Whedon series ran from 1997-2003, splitting time between The WB and UPN. Preceded by the movie of the same name and spun off into the series Angel, Buffy won 3 minor Emmys and today enjoys status as a Post-Twilight nostalgic hero, as many call for her to come back and kill Edward Cullen. Saturday Night Live NBC sketch comedy and variety show is in its 35th season, with its initial episode airing in 1975. The show was a 2000 inductee into the American Broadcasters Hall of Fame, the first entry in this tournament to receive that honor and has won 21 Emmys and a Peabody thus far. It was also named TV Guide's 10th best TV show of all time in 2002 and was included in Time's 2007 list of Top 100 TV Shows of All Time. The series has also helped launch the careers of numerous comedy actors, so many I won't list them all here.

I voted for Buffy because it is my wife's favorite show ever. Although I will admit that I know almost all the lyrics from the musical, as we've played that soundtrack to death in the car.

I loved Quantum Leap. We moved in the middle of the final season to a place that didn't have a local NBC affiliate. I have never seen the last few episodes.

Ironically, Dr. Sam Beckett jumping back in time to change votes to HIMYM might be the only thing that can save them now.
