Oh, and I have to say that as ridiculous and annoying as John Sterling's HR calls are, I don't think I've heard anything as stupid as his call of Granderson's HR last night. Something to the effect of, "Oh Curtis, you're kinda Grand-erson!" Give me a fucking break. Dude needs to be suspended for that kinda of shit.

I listened to him last night while watching the Phillies (I don't think DTV had the Phillies feed for some reason). He's a bit more tolerable doing games because he doesn't feel the need to fill all the air time with his own voice, but otherwise he still sucks.

The Nats broadcasters are horrible. When I have the misfortune of getting their games to me when they play the Mets I usually turn the sound off. I think I mentioned that last year.

Yeah, the other guy in the booth with Dibble said something last night that I thought was completely stupid or off the mark, but I can't remember what it was.

He's currently managing the Mets Gulf Coast League team, with former Mets hitting instructor Tom McCraw & former Braves conditioning coach Frank Fultz as his coaches.

That was a tough loss for the Sox last night. Geez Papelbon blows another one in the 9th and Park Chan Ho pitches three scoreless inning as of relief and three strike outs for the win?

Brewers lock down Yovani Gallardo with a 5 year/$30.1 million extension with an option for a sixth year.
Nice, but risky to sign any pitcher for that long. Won't break the bank though. |

It's my fault. I drafted him in the WW league, even though I can't stand him. I even took Broxton first in the hopes someone else would take him, and yet the draft swung back around to me and he was still there. So this is Papelbon getting back at me for drafting him.

Man, I can't take a whole year of Mike Gonzalez if you have to hold your breath every time he is on the mound. He's gonna make every ninth inning exciting if his first two save situations are any indication.

Jim Johnson should probably close in Baltimore anyway. I doubt Gonzalez finished the year as the closer.

Here's a shocker
Atlanta's Chipper Jones left the game after the third inning with a strained right oblique and said he may miss the team's weekend series at San Francisco.

I wouldn't like Johnson in the closers role. They experimented with that a little and he failed. He's a better 8th inning guy. I'd like to see Kam Mickolio be the closer, but they sent him down to Norfolk, or maybe even Uehara when he comes off the DL. Last edited by Terps : 04-09-2010 at 02:36 AM. |

I've listened to both and I'm not so sure. The Nats guys are up there as well. I realize as a Mets fan I have been spoiled, the team may suck but the announcers are great and I never get tired of hearing Hernandez and Darling talk about the good old days. |

The combo of Sterling/Waldman is a nightmare. They fit perfectly for the team/city, though - I'll give them that.

So who is the Nats' 5th starter and is he really better than Strasbourg at this point? Or did the wunderkid go to the minors to make those clubs some money before his major league debut?

Touché. Although one wonders as to the actual benefit of doing so, considering I am pretty sure his entry level contract was a three year major league deal. Best the Nats can hope for is one season of salary control, and I am not even sure of that.

Well, that puts it in perspective. No mention there, though, of the major league deal he already signed? Not that it changes the math any--he's getting paid his entry-level deal, whether he comes up now or in June. But surprised it didn't get mentioned in the math. IIRC, he got around $15 M for three years.

Alright, really, this joke with Mike Gonzalez has got to stop. Orioles take a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th. Gonzalez in for the 9th, leadoff walk, passed ball, double, and now it's tied.

Pedro Alvarez is sitting in AAA for the same reasons as Strasburg. My guess is that the union will almost have to address these type of issues in the next CBA.
You have a guy like Hardy go down to AAA for 2 weeks in order to push back his free agency a whole week. I think the union should fight to the death for a 5 years and a few months=free agency instead of the current 6 full years(which can basically be almost 7 full seasons.) |

He's definitely not playing like his career numbers indicate.
This is like watching Armando Benitez in the late 90's all over again. So far he ranks right up there with such former O's bullpen signings as Steve Kline, Mike DeJean, Danys Baez, Russ Ortiz, and... Well I'll spare the rest of them. |

I know it's early, but this is my favorite headline of the year so far in baseball:
Barmes powers DelaRosa, Rockies past Padres Rockies won the game 7-0. Barmes had one hit, a three run HR in a game that was already 4-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning. De La Rosa? How about 7 IP, 1 hit, 1BB, 9K. Barmes didn't power the Rockies past anyone. He hit a meaningless three run bomb after the game was long decided. De La Rosa is the ONLY meaningful story from that game. |
