However, in the early 80s, Al DID have an unreleased, "concert only" song called "If I could make love to a bottle," based on the Jim Croce song. I have seen Albuquerque performed as a prose interpretation. I've been to 6 live Al shows, meeting him and getting an autograph twice. I also won a radio contest for tickets by rubbing cottage cheese on my body while singing "Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters from a Planet Near Mars." I also brought in "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Amish Paradise" to teach my students a lesson about how music can be poetry. I love Al. I hope Al loves me. In a platonic way. He is married with a kid now.

I had trouble making one mix CD of the best Weird Al songs, much less pick a few.
I'll have to bring in some of my Al CDs to work tomorrow. |

My Mt. Rushmore of Weird Al songs, and why I put them there:
* My Bologna (the first parody) * Eat It (the commercial success) * One More Minute (the first original to be released as a single) * Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota (the first epic) These aren't my favorites. But I do think he's been underappreciated as a musical genius. |

Nature Trail to Hell (in 3D) will always be one of my favorites. Usually see him every time he comes to Meadowbrook in Michigan. Love him in concert.

He has more costume changes than Cher, he walks out into the audience, he has videos and scenes from UHF playing...it's not a concert, it is a happening.

Well, I listened to three of his albums at work today, and got to listen to some goodies for the first time in a while (ones that aren't on my one mix CD of his), such as "The Night Santa Went Crazy", "Bohemian Polka", "She Never Told Me She Was A Mime", and "Since You've Been Gone".
Speaking of my mix CD, on road trips with friends, I always have it with me. We do a pretty mean version of "One More Minute". Of course, the best part might be that after that song's mellow ending, the next song kicks in right away: "Living With A Hernia". Of course, I have to scream the "OW!" a few seconds into it. |

Does it seem to anyone else that Weird Al just gets better and better with time? Or is it just me?

I just recently got a broadband connection, making music downloads more palatable, so I've been able to download some Weird Al songs that I'd never heard. I love The Saga Begins and the Emimem parodies. Great job, Al!

Check out Weird Al's - Bob. A parody of Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues video but all the rhymes are palindromes. Awesome.

But had it jumped the shark 1 year, 9 months, 7 days, 15 hours, 59 minutes ago when SkyDog posted it?

Here's something from the Wikipedia entry on Weird Al: Negative One of Yankovic's most controversial parodies was 1996's "Amish Paradise", based on "Gangsta's Paradise" by hip-hop artist Coolio. Reportedly, Coolio's label gave Yankovic the impression that Coolio had granted permission to record the parody, but Coolio maintains that he never did. Complicating the issue further, "Gangsta's Paradise" already samples heavily from a Stevie Wonder song, "Pastime Paradise." While Coolio claimed he was upset, legal action never materialised, and Coolio accepted royalty payments for the song. After this controversy, Yankovic has always made sure to speak directly with the artist of every song he parodied. At the XM Satellite Radio booth at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show Yankovic and Coolio made peace. On his Website, Yankovic wrote of this event, "I don’t remember what we said to each other exactly, but it was all very friendly… I doubt I’ll be invited to Coolio’s next birthday party, but at least I can stop wearing that bulletproof vest to the mall."[27] In 2003, Yankovic was denied permission to make a video for "Couch Potato", his parody of Eminem's "Lose Yourself":

When I was a little kid, I asked my mom to play for music lessons so that I could learn how to play "This is the life." (the theme from Johnny Dangerously)
On the organ. My List: All Time Favorite: Need I say? Fave Polka: Polkarama! and Polka Power! (tie. both crack me up every time) The Night Santa Went Crazy (Nothing says Christmas like mass reindeercide) Love Weird Al's but not the original: Amish Paradise and Smells Like Nirvana (tie) ANd "FAT"--I can't even remember the lyrics to "Bad" without imagining them to the FAT video.

All these Weird Al songs and nobody's mentioned "The White Stuff" yet?
That was a song we listened to nonstop at summer camp way back in the day.

This thread just proves how timeless Wierd Al is.
I was showing my kids his backlog of videos on Youtube and stumbled onto White and Nerdy...then E-Bay. What a genius. But still my all-time favorite line is: Your tablemanners are a crying shame, stop playing with your food this aint some kinda game! My Mount Almore: Eat it! White and Nerdy E-bay (I'm highest bidder!) Another One Rides the Bus -- YouTube - First Television Appearance by "Weird Al" Yankovic

I still love the parodies because they generally don't require you to hear the original first anyway. I guess the theme of "Smells Like Nirvana" would be lost on someone who hasn't heard the song he's parodying, but for the most part, the parodies work on their own. I've now seen Weird Al in concert 4 times, and I'll see him the next time he performs within 50 miles of me, whenever that is. It'll probably be several years from now, but I guess I have to wait. It's not like I'm going to go to his house with a bloody bouquet of roses with his name stitched into my forehead. Waaaait a minute. That gives me an idea...

I love Whatever You Like, both the T.I. version and the Weird Al version. It's arguable which one is better, so I tend to listen to them about equally.
Weird Al is great.
