Anyone know what iOOTP is?
There is a beta tester group for it at the OOTP forums:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/showgroups.php (scroll half-way down) Is OOTP coming to the iPhone?

fwiw I'm actually leaning towards android for my next phone, but if I were designing apps, I'd be designing them for the iPhone over the android phones at this stage.

I think a big reason for all the iOS development is the fact that there is no android equivalent to the iPod Touch. And wont be for a while. I don't have an iPhone and dont really need or want one. nor do I need an android phone. But I will play this on my iPod Touch if it is compatible.

Just to give a position from someone who's involved in development. I like the Android phones - technologywise they're great; however from a developers perspective though there are a HECK of a lot of handsets out there for the OS which makes development and QA of products far harder than targetting the iPhone which (up until the iPhone 4) was largely a very fixed target. Basically if your app ran on a first generation iPhone then it'd run on a later generation phone without any/much effort at all and all of the devices had the same screen resolution, even the low end devices have decent storage available etc. ... none of which is unfortunately quite as 'easy' on the Android phones. Add this to the fact that the iTunes store is far more established (and the huge additional userbase that the iTouch gives you) than the Android equivalent and thats why the iPhone is generally chosen as the initial platform of choice for development. Well, here's hoping that someone in text sim development will take on the android OS in the near future.

Think about this...in 6 months...Verizon will have the iPhone as well. It will increase the user base, not a ton....but it will.

I bought OOTP 11, my first purchase from them since they moved to SI (and then went independant again). I have to say, other than a couple minor nagging items, this version is very fun.
So, I am looking forward to another great game for the iphone! Keep 'em coming!

No careers in the iPhone version.

Really? Then ignore my early comment. A text sim with no career play?

If I can't play my multiplayer league and do my lineups and such for it, then it's useless. I won't be buying it.

This could be cool, but the idea got F'ed in the A somewhere along the lines methinks.
Kind of like the whole "online franchise" thing for Madden '10. Could have been awesome, but without a contract system I might as well go play FBpro.

What's the point then? FM Handheld and Championship Manager are the only other text sims I know of available for the iPhone and both have career modes.

I am as big an OOTP fanboy as possible and love my iPhone - but I really see no way I would get this app even if it had career play. without it I really don't see the point.
Now if it allowed me to port into my normal leagues on my OC and play games on my phone while I was out and about, that might be compelling. |
