Mulholland Voted May's Top Rookie
Thursday, June 1st, 2084: Paul Mulholland's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Hartford shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .391 with 6 doubles, no triples and 8 home runs. Mulholland also scored 21 times and drove in 23 runs. Currently Mulholland has 12 home runs and a .317 batting average. Halifax's Plante CL Rookie of Month Thursday, June 1st, 2084: Frédéric Plante sure isn't playing like the rookie he is. The 26-year-old right fielder for Halifax is rapping the ball like a seasoned veteran in the Continental League and today he took home the Rookie of the Month Award for his effort. In May, Plante compiled a .318 batting average. He drove in 13 runs, hit 4 home runs and scored 11 times. This season Plante is hitting .276 with 53 hits, 6 home runs, 18 RBIs, scored 21 runs and played in 51 games. |

Just enjoying a day with the family and now some fake baseball.
My boys are watching Empire Strikes Back and we're all putting together one of those big 3D puzzles of the Millennium Falcon. Now I'm keeping up with my fake baseball team on top of it all. We're a bunch of nerds.

Happy to have a strong May, but I know my franchise history. July and August are always the toughest months. Historically, I drop back to the middle of the pack in those months, after a usually stronger than expected start to the season.

I feel better about those standings. Hopefully my Winos don't start the celebration too early and get overconfident.

Dillard Shuts out Winemakers
Monday, June 12th, 2084: In an almost effortless performance, Chris Dillard of the Settlers shot down the Winemakers 5-0 on a 3-hit shutout. His skipper said, "Chris was just locating so well and using his pitches... not leaving anything over the plate." Dillard recorded 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in a strong outing. In the postgame press conference, the Napa Valley manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him." To this point in the season, Dillard shows a 6-3 record, 12 starts, 67.2 innings, 50 strikeouts and a 4.79 ERA. |

Welshman Mows Down Apex in No-Hitter
Saturday, June 17th, 2084: The Georgia Devils relied on no-hit stuff from Dan Welshman to defeat the Apex Assassins 2-0 at Assasins Ballpark. "It's quite a thrill," a candid Welshman told the media afterward, "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it." To get his name logged in the records, he stopped Apex cold, with no hits, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 4 batters, facing only 27 batters. Welshman said in a postgame interview, "Games like this are something special. They don't come around very often, if ever. I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I just tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They are everywhere you look." In a jovial mood, his manager kiddingly told the reporters, "He definitely made it easy for me today. I didn't have any great decisions to make like I usually have to do. Didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter. I love it when my pitchers pitch a no-hitter." In 14 starts this year Welshman has fashioned a 6-7 record and a 3.78 ERA. |

This is the first time since 2064 that there have been two no-hitters in the same season! In 2064, no-hitters were thrown by St.Petersburg's Juan Jofre and Ann Arbor's Damian Burrows

Reliever Claims RL Pitching Award
Saturday, July 1st, 2084: Stan Hocking was the anchor in the Toronto bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for June. The 29-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come. He threw 18.1 innings over 11 relief appearances and collected a 6-2 record with 9 strikeouts and no saves while etching his 1.47 ERA. Hocking has gone to the hill for 30 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 10-2 record with a 2.13 ERA. The Toronto reliever has limited opposing batters to a .245 batting average. Settlers Pérez June's Top Hurler Saturday, July 1st, 2084: When Tony Pérez took the hill in June, he was in charge. The Boston starter never let the Continental League batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 5-1 record and the Pitcher of the Month award. The talented Settlers hurler made 6 starts, worked 38.1 innings, permitted 33 base hits, and struck out 28 while putting up a 1.17 ERA. For this year Pérez has chalked up 14 wins and 2 losses in 16 starts with 66 strikeouts in 111 innings and a 1.78 ERA. |

Best RL Rookie Named, Nod to Mulholland
Saturday, July 1st, 2084: Paul Mulholland is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .330 average with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 14 RBIs. For the year Mulholland is batting .321 with 16 home runs. Boston Center Fielder Best CL Rookie Saturday, July 1st, 2084: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Christian Johnston just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June. Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Boston hit .281 with 27 hits, 4 home runs and 10 runs batted in. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .324 on-base percentage. Johnston currently has a .253 batting average with 73 hits, 8 homers, 34 RBIs, 35 runs scored and a .285 OBP. |

Nice season there so far by Perez. Even with his talent, that's some gawdy stats.

It's weird how often I seem to do poorly at home. And Hammersmith Ballpark is the type of park my players tend to succeed in. It has never made much sense to me.

Perez has been one of my favorite players to watch the past few seasons and to be honest was the reason I came up with the "Unluckiest Pitcher Award". Entering this season, he had a career 76-66 Record with a 3.16 ERA. If his teams had even been halfway decent, he would have won some major awards by now. His career ERA+ entering this season was 5th highest since 2038 and comparable to two time Prado award winner Bedeschi and 3 time Prado winner Palmer White |

I mean that my park values CON hitters with high GAP, and works slightly against power hitters. I also tend to value and collect high CON and GAP hitters, and get hitters with enough POW that they'll hit the ball out of anywhere. I also aim to get pitchers with high ground ball rates to further limit homeruns (and hopefully extra basehits). So my hitters and my entire team, really, SHOULD do better at home. But I often have a .500 or less record at home, even with teams that are above .500, and my road record is usually as good or better than my home record.

Ironic that the top pitchers picked for the all star game in each league were Perez and Beltre. Last year's "Unluckiest Pitcher" if the award had existed would have been Beltre. His stats are actually worse this year considerably so, but his record had improved to 8-6 which is at least .500
