Just enjoying a day with the family and now some fake baseball.

My boys are watching Empire Strikes Back and we're all putting together one of those big 3D puzzles of the Millennium Falcon. Now I'm keeping up with my fake baseball team on top of it all. We're a bunch of nerds.

Happy to have a strong May, but I know my franchise history. July and August are always the toughest months. Historically, I drop back to the middle of the pack in those months, after a usually stronger than expected start to the season.

I feel better about those standings. Hopefully my Winos don't start the celebration too early and get overconfident.

Good luck, but my understanding is that "opposite jinx" only works for Teach.

Dillard Shuts out Winemakers
Monday, June 12th, 2084: In an almost effortless performance, Chris Dillard of the Settlers shot down the Winemakers 5-0 on a 3-hit shutout.

His skipper said, "Chris was just locating so well and using his pitches... not leaving anything over the plate."

Dillard recorded 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in a strong outing.

In the postgame press conference, the Napa Valley manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."

To this point in the season, Dillard shows a 6-3 record, 12 starts, 67.2 innings, 50 strikeouts and a 4.79 ERA.

Welshman Mows Down Apex in No-Hitter
Saturday, June 17th, 2084: The Georgia Devils relied on no-hit stuff from Dan Welshman to defeat the Apex Assassins 2-0 at Assasins Ballpark.

"It's quite a thrill," a candid Welshman told the media afterward, "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."

To get his name logged in the records, he stopped Apex cold, with no hits, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 4 batters, facing only 27 batters.

Welshman said in a postgame interview, "Games like this are something special. They don't come around very often, if ever. I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I just tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They are everywhere you look."

In a jovial mood, his manager kiddingly told the reporters, "He definitely made it easy for me today. I didn't have any great decisions to make like I usually have to do. Didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter. I love it when my pitchers pitch a no-hitter."

In 14 starts this year Welshman has fashioned a 6-7 record and a 3.78 ERA.

This is the first time since 2064 that there have been two no-hitters in the same season! In 2064, no-hitters were thrown by St.Petersburg's Juan Jofre and Ann Arbor's Damian Burrows

Best RL Rookie Named, Nod to Mulholland
Saturday, July 1st, 2084: Paul Mulholland is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .330 average with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 14 RBIs.

For the year Mulholland is batting .321 with 16 home runs.

Boston Center Fielder Best CL Rookie

Saturday, July 1st, 2084: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Christian Johnston just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Johnston currently has a .253 batting average with 73 hits, 8 homers, 34 RBIs, 35 runs scored and a .285 OBP.

Nice season there so far by Perez. Even with his talent, that's some gawdy stats.

Well so much for our late season push. This team is really stuck right now.

Didn't expect to be bottom of the barrel this year. Certainly a late season surge is in store to bump me down in the draft a bit.

It's weird how often I seem to do poorly at home. And Hammersmith Ballpark is the type of park my players tend to succeed in. It has never made much sense to me.

Have you been in the middle of the pack for a while now?

Of course, I do have my usual good Pyth record. The more things change...

Wait wait wait, how can you say your park is the type that your players tend to succeed in when you're saying they perform poorly at home. I have a little sangria in me, true, but I'm confused.

Perez has been one of my favorite players to watch the past few seasons and to be honest was the reason I came up with the "Unluckiest Pitcher Award".

Entering this season, he had a career 76-66 Record with a 3.16 ERA. If his teams had even been halfway decent, he would have won some major awards by now. His career ERA+ entering this season was 5th highest since 2038 and comparable to two time Prado award winner Bedeschi and 3 time Prado winner Palmer White

Yeah, looking at your team I wouldn't have predicted that either.

I mean that my park values CON hitters with high GAP, and works slightly against power hitters. I also tend to value and collect high CON and GAP hitters, and get hitters with enough POW that they'll hit the ball out of anywhere.

I also aim to get pitchers with high ground ball rates to further limit homeruns (and hopefully extra basehits).

So my hitters and my entire team, really, SHOULD do better at home. But I often have a .500 or less record at home, even with teams that are above .500, and my road record is usually as good or better than my home record.

Ironic that the top pitchers picked for the all star game in each league were Perez and Beltre. Last year's "Unluckiest Pitcher" if the award had existed would have been Beltre. His stats are actually worse this year considerably so, but his record had improved to 8-6 which is at least .500

I was just going to say that it's ironic that you came up with that award because of him....
