Legit Bite from Craigslist, or scam?

I'm selling a brand new leather couch sectional on craigslist and got this bite. I've always dealt with local people in person .... is this a scam??

Quote:
Okay no problem..I have taken a close look at the advert and am
completely satisfied..
Am not in the state right now,i am at sea at the moment as i am a
marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making
and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to
check this advert and send you an email regarding it.
I will be paying you via paypal to cover the cost of the item and i
will contact my shipper agent to come and pick it up immediately i get
the money transferred to you paypal account and pls if you don't have
paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account with PayPal.
and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the
e-mail address you use for registration with paypal..I will be looking
forward to read back from you soon.

George.

The horrible writing makes me worry.

scam.

and even if it's not you're likely to have enough in-person interest that you should just ignore it.

only accept cash or money orders from the post office, or certified checks from the bank.

Definite scam.

He never mentions the nature of the "item".

I love these things. I say you should string him along through like a dozen emails or so, then post them on here.

There was some classic blog or something somewhere where a nigerian scammer was strung along for weeks - he even sent a picture of himself as some kind of verification. Good times. I looked for it once or twice but never found it again. Maybe my favorite message board thread/blog right after the guy that posted a picture of his credit card online.

The Powerbook Prank: He wanted a Powerbook. We gave him a P-P-P-Powerbook!

Enforcers | This American Life
Act One. Hanging In Chad.
Three guys who go by the names Professor So and So, Jojobean and YeaWhatever spend part of each day running elaborate cons on Internet scammers. They consider themselves enforcers of justice, even after they send a man 1400 miles from home, to the least safe place they can bait him: the border of Darfur. The three self-made enforcers tell Ira their story. For more on what they did, along with photos, maps and phone recordings, go here. (29 and 1/2 minutes)

The Powerbook thing. Wow, that is awesome. Kind of bum ending, the build up made me think the scammer was going to get caught.

My favorite 419 scam was Anus Laptops. The level of how elaborate it was and how much the potential scam-ee took the scammer for a ride was gold

They have taken it to a whole new level. I was hit up this time on LinkedIn for gold bars and dust form...I almost want to take it and run with it and see how far I get with it..

TOTAL TOTAL TOTAL SCAM!

Do not send money do not respond to any more emails! Do not give them your name address and phone number.

On their original email to you (THORUGH craigslist) there is a link saying you can report the email to craigslist by flagging their address. Click that. There will be a a nice ascii art picture of a frog waiting to greet you.
delete their emails and that's it.

Also do the same for all the emails you get through craigslist that just repeat the 1st line of your ad at you. Botscams...

I sell a ton of crap on Craigslist and get these all of the time...anything that in detail is always a scam...don't even need to read it.

I didn't even read it honestly, but any message that mentions "the item" or something vague like that OBVIOUSLY is a tip-off too

It's annoying how frequent they are.

You should write them back saying that that is exactly the two ingredients that you have been looking for to complete your time machine. You need 3 pounds of gold dust and diamonds for the power cell and power cell lining for the time machine.

i love craigslist. i gave away everything in my garage for free this weekend through 8 ads, just to finally get rid of it all.

I'm talking scrap wood, old couches, a non working old oven, cabinets we tore out of the kitchen, etc. not worth the hassle of getting $20 a person, and definitely had no interest in hauling it myself and paying a dump fee. unloaded it all in about 4 hours.

*this has nothing to do with scammers.
