Yes its true they cant get rid of any of their prospects now but they werent doing it even when they had a more loaded minor leagues system 4-5 years ago. They've had decent bargaining chips in the past 4-5 years. Teams were wanting Slowey, Liriano, and Garza before they made the show and the twins refused to trade the future for rentals.

I actually wrote for some Twins blogs during that time. I have a Paul Molitor signed baseball for my trouble.

Tom Kelly, as much as I love him, rarely handled young players well. But the Twins were also drafting like idiots. That was their problem.

One year he came back to Boston all slimmed down and he was never the same pitcher. There was actually a theory that his gut helped him because it obscured the ball for longer - the batter just saw a ball flying out a split second late out of a mound of fat.

While Greinke wanting to join the Twins makes sense (good team, low-key city, familiar division) I think it would be fucking idiotic for the Twins to trade prospects for him.

Yes, I'm aware of the difference between FA and a trade. The sentiment seems to be that no matter what, if they Yankees want a player, they get him. And at the trade deadline, the Yankees lost. The term "outbid" was widely used to describe how the Rangers ended up with Lee instead of the Yankees.

If Montero is as good as Smoak or better, than that's even more evidence that the Yankees weren't "outbid." That was the Mariners' choice betwen two competitive offers. the Yankees obviously didn't want Lee bad enough to give more than they offered, so I wouldn't make too much of their failure to make the trade.

Yes it would be fucking idiotic of them if he was in the last 3 months of his contract. The Twins dont have the luxury of being able to trade their top prospects for 3 months of service. They arent the Yankees, Red Sox or Angels where they can just buy out of their mistakes. Since hes not he is exactly what they need.

I am sorry that not all of you realize not every team is loaded with talent and money.

While that may be true, making such a trade will result in them only losing in 4 to the Yankees and could threaten their long-term ability to contend.

I'm not sure what discussion I am stepping into here, but just want to say in general, this is correct. I wish one player could get the Twins over the hump against the Yankees but I dont know who that player is. They are simply lost when playing them. Their great defense goes in the tank, they cant hit, and their bullpen which is normally decent decides to start sucking when the Yankees come to town. They are beaten before the games are played more often than not.

Its like watching a different team every year when they play the Yankees.
