agree 100%. It is the Qb's job to win games. He doesn't always have to be flashy, sometimes it just means not making boneheaded plays as someone mentioned earlier. In the end wins are all that matter. Take Eli Manning, I know I get bashed because of my comments aout him, and a lot of it deserved, but as a Giants fan I can't complain. The Giants have done an awfull lot of winning since he arrived.

You really can't go wrong with either IMO, but I probably take Ben because he has shown he can win the big game in the past.

Of course, if you factor in face of the franchise, off field issues,etc..., my opinion may change.

It is the teams job to win games. At some point we need to realize that not all qbs situations are similar. Do you not think Aaron Rodgers could have done what Eli did a few years back? Hell, the Giants may have won that game by 2 tds with a better QB and not needed the miracle comeback.

Obviously Big Ben is a nice QB and Im sure the Steelers are happy to have him however Im just sick of this "hes a winner" tag we throw on him. He is a very good qb that has played on good teams which make him a key part of a winning team. As far as I know Big Ben has never won a game by himself. I dont think he knows some amazing trick that helps the Steelers win games that only he knows. Perhaps if he played like Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees in the 1st 3 quarters of the game he wouldnt need these 4th quarter comebacks.

Is Mark Sanchez a top 10 qb simply because his team gets to the AFC Championship 2 straight years? Is it not possible that the Jets got the AFC Championship despite Sanchez instead of because of him?

Take this game for example Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens - December 5th, 2010 - Pro-Football-Reference.com

It looks like Ben pulled another rabbit out of his hat when in reality he played a poor game but Palamalu saved the day with a sack and forced fumble which lead to another Steelers win. Ben has his good and bad days just like any other QB however he has a defense to bail him out when he is having the bad days which a lot of QBs dont have.

I had a big response written with stats and such but lost it due to cookie timeout. lol I remember my last paragraph, though, so I'll just write it again. Too tired to rework the whole thing.

The guy doesn't put up gaudy numbers. He's not asked to do so. The Steelers don't beat Arizona in the Super Bowl without him. They don't make it to Super Bowl XL without him playing lights out the three prior playoff games.

Is he the best ever? No. Is he the best QB playing now? No. Does he take a good team and elevate it into a great one? Yes. The Steelers have pretty much had a consistent top 5 defense since Cowher arrived in 1992 (with the exception of a few reload years - see 1999). The 1994-1995 versions probably had more sheer talent than this one (they were certainly stronger in the secondary - Woodson and Polamalu cancel each other out...but the rest of the guys on that mid-90s squad were better cover guys). They also had a top 5 running game most of those seasons. Their offensive lines were stocked with first and second round picks. How many Super Bowls did those teams win before Ben arrived? Zero.

Same for Rodgers.

Plug in some solid NFL starting cailber QB in either place (say, Kyle Orton). Both teams are arguably still playoff, or borderline playoff teams. Not like they'd go from 12-4/10-6 to 3-13.

I'll give you Rodgers more important to the team than Ben is to his team, alot based on the offense they run. Pass heavy vs. balanced, of course the QB is going to carry more value. I wouldn't go as far as 65% vs 85-90% though.

70% to 80%, 1 degree of "importantness", as far as being a SB team.

Big Ben does bring one thing that I think is very important that Rodgers does not and that's the Super Bowl experience under his belt. He's been there, he knows what it's like to have to come back very late in the game. I think this will be a big factor unless it is a blow out of a game. I honestly think the Steelers are in a really good position to win their 7th title.

Based on the twitter stuff with this and Cutler the NFLPA doesn't strike me as a particuraly solid union.

As with most unions, there are always divisions. I think this is very typical of unions in general, and when push comes to shove, everyone stands together. I don't think it really addresses whether or not it's a solid union. With all the money these guys make, it's bound to be a strong union. They have plenty of bargaining clout.
