Building a better Fantasy Baseball League - RULES Voting

Please cast your vote on the following rules - I've taken the suggestions of everyone in the previous threads to come up with this list. Again, I had to make some editorial decisions in order to make all of the potential choices work together, so if you notice something that doesn't seem right, please let me know.

Voting closes on Saturday March 26.

I'll PM the holdouts and get this going - It looks like we'll be running this on ESPN - it's "Maximun Customizeable!" and the interface is nice. We'll have to hack the way we do keepers (I've done it before, tried and true) but otherwise we'll be set.

The only minor league news I'm aware of is for the Fresno Grizzlies, and that only because I have season tickets. I'll be referencing the same top prospects report that you see on ESPN.

+1 on the Todd thanks.

HAHAHAHAHAH Suicane.

I'm excited for this league but I know that definitely the first year is going to be rough for me (never done a keeper league, not as up on the NL as I am AL, never done a weekly thing, don't know much about the minors, etc etc). I have yet to find any minor league info on espn.com either (granted I hate their website).

Big ups to Todd for this idea (and the follow-through!).

Here is what I've entered into the ESPN league:

Player Pool - NL
Draft Type - Draft
Roster Makeup - C,1B,2B,SS,3B,MI,CI,5xOF,2xU,9xP
Scoring Categories - OBP,HR,RBI,SB,R,W,S,ERA,WHIP,K
Reserve Players - 5
Reserve Player Movement - You can swap active players and reserve players at will
DL Players - *Count as reserve players*
DL Players in the Free-Agent Pool - You can pick up free agents on the DL
Players traded out of the player pool - Keep their stats for remainder of season
Free Agent pickups - FAAB, ties based on inverse-order of stanings, reset weekly.
Keeper Rules - none
Minor League Rosters - none
Roster Moves are due before the first pitch of the day
Waivers for free agent pickups are run twice a week on Thursday and Sunday evenings.
FAAB of $100 is used with a $0 minimum.

Please note this is NOT the final say on our rules - we will have to use some house rules to get around the ESPN restrictions and to enable keepers the way we want to use them. Don't worry, it sounds complicated but it is actually very simple.

Here are the rules we will be enforcing that are outside ESPN's scope:

DL players - unlimited number, you can NOT pick up free-agents on the DL

Reserve Players and the DL: It looks like the ESPN default is 5 reserve players and 8 max on the DL. Hopefully this will suffice, but if we get into a situation where are team needs to disable a 9th player, I will keep note of that player and make sure they remain the protected property of the team that has him. Also, ESPN cannot prevent you from picking up a DL player from the free-agent pool, so don't do it. If you do, I'll back out the transaction and ridicule you mercilessly.

As for keepers, we can do this manually. At the end of the year, we'll figure out our keepers, distribute the list to everyone in the league, then when it is time to draft next year, you will pick your keeper player in the approporiate spot.

Also, Minor league rosters will be done manually as well - they will not be part of the reserve lists as they are seperate players. When you want to call one of your players up, you can pick them up via waivers - I'll prevent owners from picking up other owners minor league players.

I'll detail the rest of the rules in the next post.

So the voting on Keepers was as such:

No limit - 4 votes
Same number for everyone - 4 votes
Range of players - 3 votes

So we'll need to vote on that again.

Keeper Impact will be based on draft position, and keeping a 5th round pick means you lose a 4th rounder the next year.

You will be able to keep a player a max of 3 years

There will be a 5 player minor league squad

We are playing for $50

After the run-off vote for the Keeper rule - look for the thread - I'll finalize ESPN

Also, we will choose a draft date in the run-off thread
