News for Idiots

There are occassional good columns on Yahoo but obviously they are few and far between. However, the article on now about 6 money habits that are illegal is hysterical.

Quote:
Here are six money habits you should quit now.
1. Signing Someone Else's Name on a Check2. Using Someone Else's Identity to Obtain Credit
3. Lying on a Home Loan Application
4. Writing 'Bad' Checks
5. Copying U.S. Currency
6. Defacing U.S. Currency
I'll give them that writing bad checks and defacing currency might be "habits" that some people have that they should quit. My favorite line from the article:
Quote:
Color printers, scanners and copiers make it surprisingly easy for just about anyone to replicate U.S. or foreign currency. But it is, in fact, illegal to print your own money and try to spend it to buy goods or services.
I'm trying to picture someone right now saying, "Damn! I didn't know I couldn't print money and spend it."

You can't print your own money? Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have read this. I was perfectly happy before reading this and now I'm a criminal...

Maybe we can just send them a check for the amount they're missing.

I see it doesn't say it's bad to print your own checks. Maybe I need to change my strategy.

"Greetings, I am from (pick a small country) and have this check for 10 million dollars. If you do me a favor and deposit this check you may keep most of it, just send me 50,000 to cover my fees. I am trying to funnel the money away from our corrupt government to someone who can use the money. This will keep my countrymen from being killed by this corrupt government for speaking out."

Well, you can print your own checks. You still have to have money to back them up in an account. But we used to see that when I worked at Office Max- small businesses did it all the time.

How about this article that basically says "nothing is going to happen". Why the hell is this considered "news"?

Beach Boys won't be suing Katy Perry - Entertainment - Music - TODAYshow.com

It's just an excuse to check out Katy Perry's rack. That's news enough for me.

I love the articles that are on MSN homepage recently. Blatent vapid BS like the Beach Boys one above and then you click on it, and you don't even get a story with any details just a bunch of links to Bing searches ("who did this?", "what did they say?").

Microsoft must be so fricking desperate for this POS search engine to work, they've spent billions on adverts, they've been giving money away through online vendors and shopping and still nobody uses the damn thing, now they are trying to artificially generate clicks by conning all the stupid people who don't know how to use the internet properly into going there.

It is legal to use the back of a t-shirt as a check. Institutions just don't have to accept them.

As long as you have the bank routing number and your account number, you could use a piece of toast as a check.
