Things I got:

A watch/heartrate monitor for my workouts
A Breville juicer
"A History of the World in 100 Objects" - book
A shirt from my uncle
A Salt Crystal lamp (weird) from my sister

Things I gave:
A towel-warmer to my sister
A gift certificate to my mom to the local yarn store
A trip to California to see my sister and her kids to my dad
A new pair of shoes to my brother

So yeah...definitely gave more than I got, but that's quite alright by me. Didn't really want much, and was happy to be able to give things instead.

All I got for Christmas was the day off from work tomorrow, which is a damn good present IMO.

EDIT: Of course, I've been buying myself Christmas presents for the last 3 months. New camera, new coat, a few new hats. S'all good.

materially, not much but we've decided to close the dojo for one week, 10 days in fact and it's about the damnedest, bestest decision I've taken in along while. I love what I do but the last 7 months have been a lot of hard work and taking that break is more than welcome.

Other than that, my wife surprised me with the biography of Steve Jobs which I'm sure will be a great read. Also got some money and some giftcards to a restaurant which we'll certainly use during those 10 days off.

Oh, and to see the eyes of our two sons light up as they open gifts they like but didn't expect. These are always priceless...

Best part of Christmas is watching people's expressions when they open presents. More specifically, my wife and kids.

Got my wife a new camera, which she was not expecting.
My oldest daughter got a scooter.
My son got an iPod.
Two youngest daughters got dress up clothes and other small stuff.

I got a Kindle (my first foray into the e-reader genre).

Very good day.

Galaxy Nexus phone (which I actually got a week or so before Christmas since my old one died)
Nook e-reader with case and a gift card for e-books
Rayman: Origins for PS3
a half dozen or so items of clothing
the latest seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Eastbound and Down
some tools (a set of drill bits and a set of chisels)
amazon.com gift certificate

The gifts I got for others seemed to go over well. I got my parents a new TV for their kitchen, my brother the same Rayman: Origins game I got, a handle of Crown Royal for my dad and some books and CDs for my mom.

Great gifts I gave this year:

- For my little brother (13 months younger, not very little at 29), a blank Black Armor San Jose Sharks Jersey with a gift certificate for the price of stitching so he can put any name on the back that he wants. Also, two 3rd row, center ice tickets to a game in February, enough time for him to get his stitching done on the jersey. Sounds like he's going to go with Marleau.

- Racing instruction and a full day on the track at Thunderhill Raceway in northern California for my mother. She has always wanted to know how to race, and this package that my brother and I put together will team her with an instructor for a few half-hour sessions in the morning to teach her the basics of racing, and then give her a couple more sessions on her own on the track later in the afternoon. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I do this for myself soon as well, it looks and sounds like an amazing time.

---

Cool gifts I watched my family give each other:

- My little brother bought new heads for my dad's tom-toms, installed them and tuned them without him realizing it for a nice Christmas morning surprise.

- My cousin got my dad the official San Francisco Giants team jacket - the same one the players wear in the dugout. It's a really high quality jacket and I'm very jealous. He was suitably excited.

---

Cool stuff I got:

-Teal Joe Pavelski San Jose Sharks Jersey
-Buster Posey bobblehead
-2010 San Francisco Giants World Series Champion Duckhorn Wine bottle
-Skyrim (PS3)
-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
-Seafarers of Cataan
-Dominion: Intrigue
-Balloon Cup
-2010 San Francisco 49ers football autographed by the whole team
-Vinturi Deluxe Wine Aerator Set
-The Redwall Cookbook (might be the coolest gift I got, despite the simplicity)

My family goes a bit overboard, but I love it. It always turns into a competition for who can GIVE the best gift. It's fun to try to come up with unique gifts that have meaning for people, rather than just spending a bunch of money on them.

Cool gifts I gave ...

* MineCraft pickaxe for my youngest son (foam but fairly 'solid')
* 'Wicked' leather bound grimoire for my wife (she's mad on the Musical)
* The Picture of Dorian Grey graphic novel (filled item for my daughter - but she's always loved the novel and manga comics - so getting them combined was pretty neat imho ).

Oh and I spent a fair chunk of the day playing 'Magic the Gathering' with my eldest son (some cards were part of his present as he's started playing recently) .... which rocked as I haven't played since University

A few weeks before Christmas I got myself a Galaxy Tab 10.1 on a great deal, so I consider that my first gift .

FOFC Secret Santa got me Community, Season 2 on DVD.

Last week by close friends and coworkers I got:

"The Kingdom New Testament" by N.T. Wright
X-Men First Class on Blu-ray
$25 gift card to Amazon.com
$10 gift card to Amazon.com
$15 gift card to iTunes

On Christmas, I got
From my fiance:
- Two David Crowder CDs (He's an actually good Christian artist)
- Super 8 on Blu-ray
- 3 pictures in frames that I went nuts over earlier this year - each is a picture of an old stamp, a fountain pen nib, and some writing in the background with an aged looking frame - very Indiana Jones-like (this was a complete shock)
- A bag of Intelligensia coffee

From Fiance's immediate family:
- A metal wine rack (knowing them this is amusing)

From Fiance's grandparents:
- a Fleece throw with my name engraved on it and the scales of justice (super nice)
- An Emeril Legace cookbook

I gave my fiance a new pair of nice headphones, a new cross necklace (since hers had broke and she was having problems trying to get one that was exactly her style) among other things, helped on getting my fiance's bro a PS3, her other bro some really interesting Legos, and DVD box sets for both future in-laws (Poirot for mom, Twilight Zone for dad).

First 3 seasons of Sons of Anarchy (Since this was the first season I really got into it, I can catch up now)

MMA gloves and striking pads

2 Baseball books, Ed Delahanty and Rube Waddell bios, I am a huge historical baseball buff and these are great additions to my collection.

$100 in I tunes cards

New slippers and some Guitar accessories....

My wifes favorite gift from me was tickets to Wicked in February when it hits Phoenix. Also got her some new boots, a couple of coach purses and the two seasons of 'Everybody loves Raymond' she was missing and the traditional Christmas Teddy Bear

Best family gift was Rock Band 3, which consumed a good part of the day.

My girlfriend gave me a Death Cab For Cutie t-shirt, and I'm getting her tickets to this band she likes "The Toasters".

My family gave me some iTunes gift cards so I can put more songs on my iPod....always good.

Not much of a huge gift giving or getting Christmas...It's all good, though. I'm happy.

This. I don't know what it is but watching my family open bring tears to my eyes every time. This year was especially special since my four year old has been stuck in a full length leg cast. He held up each one of his gift as he opened them like he was raising a championship trophy.

The kids together got games for the Wii and clothes

My oldest got an Ipod Nano and my youngest got a Mobi-Go.

My wife got an IPad 2 and a Bluetooth keyboard. Loved seeing her jump around when she realized what she got.

I think my wife got us the best this year.

We have a trip planned for early next year to London to do some sightseeing and visit family. My wife gave myself and the boys tickets to see Fulham v. Newcastle at Craven Cottage. This will be our first Premier League match in person and the boys hopefully get to see their favorite footballer Clint Dempsey play. We may actually find a EPL club to support now.

I love that woman

My mother in law is the biggest culprit. We had to put a spending limit on her a few years back it got so bad. They have money but we just don't need all that stuff.

If you think my list was bad you should see my sons who is her only grandchild.

$175 in gift cards to various places a greatest dad hat from my five year old, a pack of plastic army men from my 4 year old (so we can play together with his), and my wife told me, that for Christmas, and combined with my 40th bday in April she's booked us a trip to the West coast to watch the Reds play for a weekend next season. Since it's on the weekend, I've narrowed it down to two places: SF and SD. Great stuff.
