Amazing Customer Service

So I bought both of my nephews (7 and 4) IPAD 2s for Christmas.

[Well actually Santa brought them, their mom and dad didnt know they were coming, I actually snuck them in....long story.]

But to the point, Christmas morning the 7 year old drops his and cracks the screen. It was in a case, but he had the stylus clipped on the case with the stylus outside and the clip inside it fell screen down and the ball of the stylus punched a hole in the screen and it shattered. So this morning their dad took it down to the Apple store to get the screen replaced fully expecting a $100-200 repair bill but hoping it would at least be less than a new one.

So he tells them the whole (real) story of how it happened and Apple gave him a brand new IPad2 in the box and took the broke one back. He told them if it happened again they would have to pay, but as a one time deal since it just happened they would comp it out.

I am about as big of an Anti-Apple fanboi as you wll ever find (I have 3 mp3 players, none of which are ipods and have had darn near every droid phone since the first, while my wife and kids have iphones, ipods, macbooks etc.) but I have to admit this service amazed me and may actually impact future personal buying decisions.

Anyway I am quick to bitch when a company does something wrong, but I thought this deserved some kudos...so kudos Apple.

They'll usually do a one time replacement from what I hear.

I actually investigated this online when my step son dropped my wife's iPad, and most people had similar experiences. I took it down to the Apple store and they gave us a brand new one on the spot, no questions asked.

Yeah I bought my kids them last year (10 and 7 at the time) and they loved them. When the nephews come visit they are just captivated by them. So I thought why not.

We gave our kids $40 in iTunes gift cards and teach some budgeting skills...plus there are tons of free games and education stuff. Its basically a better DS for a kid that has much better battery life and no need to carry cartridges around, in my opinion.

But I see them being broken frequently.

The game math on an Itouch or iPad is amazing. For $30 you can get 1 DS game, or potentially 30 different games. Especially for the young kids, who have evolving interests.

That was the exact argument I convinced my sis on basically.
A 3DS is ~$175. Then add on say 10 games at $25 each and you have $425....and it cant hold a candle to an iPad as a music/movie/web device.

If you get up to 20 or 30 games the comparison is absurd.

I thought the iPads were getting cases that were rather durable to were they were virtually fall proof.

I am curious...what apps would you recommend for a four-year old boy? My girlfriend's son used my iPad 1 for the first time the other night, and I felt ill-equipped for him to use it. He used the whiteboard app and Need For Speed, which is fine (he loves cars), but I'd like to put some things on there that he'll really get some use out of.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My four year old likes Dora's ABC's and he loves pretty much every game I have on it that I allow him to play. He has Lego Harry Potter for it and a couple of Disney Cars apps for it.

You know...the Buffalo Apple Store for me ruined my entire Apple experience to the point I ditched the iPhone and went to a WM7 phone (I don't regret it one bit).

However, I am looking at going with the iPad2 mainly for work and I hope to get better service than I have in the past.
