IWS #187 Results
Below you will find the results of IWS #187, which had the intended theme of "control" for budding football stars. I was very happy with the participation and with how certain questions turned out. A couple had some surprises. How did the results play out?
1. You’re a stud high school QB recruit who dreams of being selected with the first pick of the NFL draft. What school do you choose to attend? USC (Southern Cal) - 25 Stanford - 2 Notre Dame - 2 Alabama - 2 Oklahoma, Ohio State, UCLA, LSU, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Navy, Duke Damn, an eliminator right off the bat. I knew USC would win this one, but surprised by how much. I thought there would have been more support for some of the other traditional powers, and figured Luck would have steered more Stanford votes. BTW, MIJB#19, I'll appreciate you steering the next stud QB recruit you know to Rutgers! 2. You’re a talented defensive player who shredded his knee at the start of his senior year of high school. You’re all healed but your offers have dried up, and you’ll need to walk on to a program to achieve your NFL goals. Where are you headed? Alabama - 9 Miami - 4 USC - 3 LSU - 3 Boise State - 2 Texas - 2 Ohio State - 2 Rutgers - 2 Virginia Tech - 2 Florida, Indiana, Stanford, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Clemson, Duke, Colorado, Ole Miss Apparently stupid thinks they can break through the most talented defense in the country! Wondering if I should have phrased it differently to lessen your talent level... 3. You’re a stud college RB. You’ve been guaranteed the starting RB position by every NFL team – your fantasy owners won’t even worry about handcuffing you! To what team are you having your agent steer you? Patriots - 8 Giants - 7 Steelers - 6 Packers - 5 Cowboys - 3 Broncos - 3 Redskins, Lions, Saints, 49ers, Texans, Bears, Colts Stupid likes success, even if its on a team that traditionally downplays the primary RB. I wrote this question with the Texans in mind, so Julio Riddols, I feel your pain. 4. You’re one of the top college WRs, ready to make an impact at the NFL level, but you can’t expect any handouts. What team do you hope drafts you? Patriots - 17 Saints - 5 Packers - 4 Giants - 4 Vikings, Ravens, Steelers, Texans, 49ers, Broncos, Rams, Cardinals, Colts Stupid laughs in the face of Gronk and Hernandez. 5. You’re a talented college QB, but you know it will be a couple years before you will be ready to start at the NFL level. Which team do you hope to be drafted by? Patriots - 20 Broncos - 4 49ers - 3 Giants - 3 Cowboys - 2 Packers - 2 Saints, Jets, Titans, Colts, Whomever Peyton Manning Signs With Stupid once again falls in love with Brady and BB, and makes an eliminator that I did not see coming (surprisingly). And four of you now get to learn behind Peyton (but not five of you, funny guy). 6. Your versatility was displayed throughout your college career, where you played all over the field on either side of the ball. It earned you an invite to the NFL combine. What specific position do you list yourself as in order to maximize your chances at NFL success? WR - 12 CB - 9 LB - 4 QB - 3 TE - 2 OT - 2 S - 2 Punter, "Special Teams", RB, LG, DE/LB Hybrid (didn't affect results) I originally phrased this question as "you have average speed, size, strength but earned an invite to the combine anyway. Which position group do you join..." but was worried it would restrict any votes from the "bigger" position groups. In hindsight I wish I stuck with that, as I think the typical "athlete" that could play both sides of the ball evolve into WRs or CBs which dominated the question. I would have went with LB or Fullback. At long last, here are the scores... That was hands down the hardest IWS I've participated in. I was thinking way too much...and Stupid doesn't like to think!

Figured the title of Eli Manning would have swayed more Giants votes.

DBs are the ones that always get swapped around, not WRs. Silly stupid.

bah, the backup QB one got me. I went with Green Bay thinking stupid would have seen how succesful Aaron Rogers turned out after being a backup there and that MAtt Flynn was gonna ink a nice deal.

Sixth! I'll take it.
Got burned by the WR question. Gronk and Hernandez scared me, I thought of Manningham leaving NY, ... Also, choosing Miami over Alabama is a strong sign that I'm firmly stuck in the past. |

Very Nice!
It is a very solid IWS when stupid wins despite not getting the #1 answer to all of the questions. 25 for USC does seem very high. Figured Notre Dame would get more love. Last edited by jbergey22 : 03-21-2012 at 11:35 AM. |

Forgot the cardinal rule of IWS: don't overthink a question.
Went with the Vikings on the immediate impact WR question because they draft #3. Instead of the "stupid" approach of trying to answer as quickly and obviously as possible. Stupid wouldn't look up the draft order and remember all the Luck/Griffin talk. Cost me a perfect score. |

So much for going with the "if a name is given, go with that" rule (2x Rutgers, 3x Giants), this is easily my worst score since the revival.

I was hoping stupid would remember the good old walk on dynasty from AE, with his walk-on Tennessee player.
It was the first thing that popped into my head. Sue me. |

If I was playing, my score would have been just north of 21k.

I chose "special teams" because I wanted to make a roster that way and try and earn playing time. I figured since I am versatile, a guy like me would be very valuable.. But I just didn't know what to term the position.. Kinda knew I made a bad choice there.
I thought for sure People would choose to run behind that Texans line as a RB, and would choose to learn behind a good older QB as a young, raw passer. As a WR I wanted a good mentor to watch, so I chose Fitzgerald, and if I was a defensive guy looking to walk on anywhere, I would choose Indiana for the decent exposure and the lack of talent on that side of the ball there. I definitely over thought these.

I went with stupid answers. A QB wouldnt select Navy, because that would be, wait for it, stupid.
And a LG? Why would a stud athlete choose LG? Because he is stupid. And with Manning all over the news, I figured thats who Stupid would follow. Oh well, I guess I over-thought it. Great questions. Very fun. |

For the first question I googled something like "Draft QB top college" and got an article listing the top 10 colleges that have drafted the best QBs. USC was number 1. I assume others found similar.

What a strange game, I'm actually sitting here thinking pretty highly of myself for finishing 4th as a rare participant ... because I'm apparently stupid.
They were good questions, props to Logan on that.
