Major Wins Best Bat Trophy in April
Friday, May 1st, 2099: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old George Major put together a solid offensive month for Manchester and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .359 with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 12 runs scored.


Sandoval Wins RL's Best Bat Trophy
Friday, May 1st, 2099: Mauro Sandoval battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Sandoval told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Sandoval hit .330 with 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

April's Best Hurler in CL Is Rosado
Friday, May 1st, 2099: Vicente Rosado has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Freedom bullpen ace collected 2 saves and 13 strikeouts in 16.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .213 average and posting a 0.54 ERA and a 3-0 record.


RL Selects Saito April's Best Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2099: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Mototsune Saito still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 31-year-old starter for Waikiki was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 35 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 2.29 ERA in 35.1 innings of work.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2099: Youngster Francisco Rodríguez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Washington deserved the honor, batting .411 with 1 home run and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Rodríguez enjoy the limelight.

Friday, May 1st, 2099: Larry Flannery had a standout April and today received the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Bater Wins CL's Best Bat Award
Monday, June 1st, 2099: Jim Bater of the Bishops hit .269 in May with 10 home runs, 18 RBIs and 24 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 31-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

Bater on the season is hitting .254 with 10 home runs. His stats include 27 RBIs and 34 runs scored.


RL's #1 Batter Announced
Monday, June 1st, 2099: In May, Ann Arbor Wolverines left fielder Jesús Morales claimed the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .342 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Posting a .344 batting average to date, Morales has 14 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Manchester's Sánchez Top Pitcher in May
Monday, June 1st, 2099: Roberto Sánchez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in May, the 31-year-old Manchester hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 26 in 38.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.79 and allowed opponents to hit .194 against him.

Sánchez has started 10 times this year, pitched 73 innings, fanned 47 batters and walked 25. His current record is 7 wins and 1 loss with a 2.96 ERA.


Storey Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Monday, June 1st, 2099: Veteran Chris Storey put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Waikiki Beach Boys, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Storey racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 3.02 ERA over 41.2 innings and striking out 34.

This season-to-date, Storey has fashioned a 6-4 mark and 4.33 ERA in 70.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .247 against him and he has logged 72 strikeouts.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Monday, June 1st, 2099: Jason Head was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Head batted .326 for Havana, slapping 28 hits in 86 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 11 runs and scored 21 times.

On the year Head has hit .276 with 7 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 28 runs.


RL Best Rookie Award Announced
Monday, June 1st, 2099: Javier Árias's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Spring second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .366 with 17 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Árias also scored 22 times and drove in 13 runs.

So far this season Árias is batting .299 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 56 hits in 187 at-bats, 13 walks and a .347 OBP. Árias has played in 47 games.

Terry Earns June's Top Batter Prize in CL
Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: Steven Terry of the St Louis Hops spoke softly and carried a big stick in June and was justifiably proclaimed the Continental League Batter of the Month.

The Hops first baseman rapped out a .395 batting average with 34 hits in 86 at-bats, drove in 22, scored 20 runs and chalked up a .465 on-base percentage.

To date this season Terry is hitting .292 with 13 home runs.


Valdéz Cops RL Batter of the Month Honors
Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: In June, Ignacio Valdéz swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Spring left fielder batted .392 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

So far this year in 78 games Valdéz is hitting .345 with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

Terriers Vásquez June's Top Hurler
Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: Ricardo Vásquez is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for June.

He made 13 relief appearances for Manchester last month, throwing 17 innings and collecting 7 saves, a 3-0 record, 15 strikeouts and a 1.59 ERA.

Vásquez has compiled an ERA of 3.20 so far this season, winning 3 games with 3 losses and 18 saves. In 35 relief appearances he has hurled 39.1 innings, yielded 33 hits and struck out 43. Opposing hitters have batted .228 against Vásquez.


Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: A standout performance in June earned Steve Rosado the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Republic League. When his name was penciled in to start by the Waikiki skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams. For the month the Beach Boys star racked up 5 wins and 1 loss.

In 38 innings of work, Rosado limited opposing batters to 39 base hits and a .273 batting average. He notched 21 strikeouts, issued 11 walks and had a 2.84 ERA.

This year Rosado has fanned 72 in 86.2 innings and collected a 7-4 record with a 3.63 ERA.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Francisco Rodríguez just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old catcher for Washington hit .390 with 32 hits, 1 home run and 11 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .446 on-base percentage.

So far this year Rodríguez is hitting .376 with 2 home runs.


Flannery Picked June's Best Newcomer
Wednesday, July 1st, 2099: The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Larry Flannery of Las Vegas. He was chosen as the #1 rookie in June.

Last month the 27-year-old Wildcats center fielder played in 27 games and hit .281 with 9 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. Flannery also scored 14 times and drove in 13 runs.

Currently Flannery is batting .251 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

Edwards July's Best Bat Choice
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: For the month of July, Otis Edwards of the Havana Banana Sluggers has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Continental League pitchers to the tune of a .343 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Edwards went 35 for 102 last month with 6 walks. The first baseman tallied 9 home runs, 24 RBIs, 14 runs scored and compiled a .376 on-base percentage.

On the year Edwards has hit .320 with 27 home runs, 76 RBIs and scored 58 runs.


July's RL Batter of Month Award Announced
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Tokaji Sekine. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Ann Arbor's right fielder pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .337 in July collecting 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

So far this season Sekine is batting .336 with 27 home runs, 85 RBIs and 73 runs scored. He has 128 hits in 381 at-bats, 45 walks and a .408 OBP. Sekine has played in 98 games.

Continental League Announces Best Starter
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: Roberto Hernández nailed down July's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St Louis to get a deal done before the 29-year-old becomes a free agent.

Hernández seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-0 record, reeled off 29 strikeouts, worked 38 innings and held batters to a .220 average for the month as he posted a 1.18 ERA.

To date this season, Hernández has a record of 7 wins and 8 losses and a 4.19 ERA. He has appeared in 21 games and struck out 83 in 129 innings.


Storey Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: In July when the Waikiki manager wrote the name "Storey" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Chris Storey took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 1.47 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Beach Boys star pitched 36.2 innings, fanned 27 and held opposing teams to a .206 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Storey was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

So far this season Storey has compiled a 13-5 record with a 3.38 ERA.

Centeno Voted July's Best CL Rookie
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: Braz Centeno earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Washington second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Centeno hit .294 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

For the season Centeno is hitting .285, batted in 61 runs with 14 home runs and 53 runs scored.


Great Month for RL Rookie
Saturday, August 1st, 2099: Martín Reyna is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Maricopa hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .344 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 8 RBIs.

This season Reyna has hit at a .257 clip with 26 RBIs, 1 home runs and 35 runs scored.

Steele Top Hitter in CL in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: Donald Steele of the St Louis Hops had a field day with Continental League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During August he compiled a .374 batting average, drove in 13 runs and scored 17 times. He also managed to pick up 15 walks to post a .455 on-base percentage.

During the current season Steele is batting at a .293 clip with 4 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has played in 131 games and scored 75 times.


Sekine Crowned Top RL Hitter in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Tokaji Sekine can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 35-year-old right fielder for Ann Arbor was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .372 with 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

For the year Sekine is hitting .344 with 36 home runs. His stats include 115 runs batted in and 93 runs scored.

Conboy CL Winner, Top Hurler in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: The top pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Phil Conboy of the Oshawa Mullets. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing August with an excellent 3-1 record and 1.42 ERA.

The Mullets hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 31 hits in 44.1 innings. He struck out 52 and walked 10.

This season Conboy has a 11-6 record with a 2.55 ERA in 27 starts.


Ayala Is August's Top Starter
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: Juan Ayala took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in August. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Portland last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.19 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 37.2 innings and striking out 28.

To this point in the season Ayala has 10 wins and 6 losses and a 2.84 ERA.

Salazar Wins Rookie of the Month
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: Rafael Salazar wreaked havoc on Continental League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In August he batted .316 for the Banana Sluggers, lashing 24 hits and 2 home runs. The Havana third baseman also drove in 17 runs and scored 10 times to round out a most impressive month.

This season Salazar is batting .279 with 14 home runs.


Ann Arbor Hurler Wins Rookie Award
Tuesday, September 1st, 2099: For a young man just making his way into the Republic League, Juan Luna has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In August he fashioned a 5-0 mark and a 2.78 ERA. The Ann Arbor starter struck out 25 in 35.2 innings as he walked 9 and held opposing batters to a .209 average.

This season Luna has compiled a 16-6 mark, 3.37 ERA and made 26 starts.

Bungay of St Cloud CL Batter of the Month
Thursday, October 1st, 2099: Vincent Bungay is in the final year of his contract with St Cloud and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 27 games in September the 39-year-old third baseman ripped Continental League pitchers for a .347 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

If Bungay keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This year Bungay is hitting .269 with 15 home runs and 74 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .415 clip and scored 121 runs.

Thursday, October 1st, 2099: On the heels of a very productive September, Tokaji Sekine received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

Harris Collects CL Pitching Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2099: Following one of the brightest stretches in his career, the Continental League awarded St Louis reliever Don Harris September's Pitcher of the Month trophy.

He was mesmerizing as he held opponents to a .125 batting average and put together a 0-0 mark, 10 saves, 23 strikeouts and a 0.53 ERA during his 17 innings of work.

Running the numbers on Harris for the year, he has made 78 relief appearances, recorded 38 saves and compiled a 4-5 won-lost mark with a 2.83 ERA. In pitching 86 innings, he has totaled 98 strikeouts and 22 walks.


September's RL Top Pitcher is Axemen Ayala
Thursday, October 1st, 2099: It was a very good month for Juan Ayala in September. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Portland Axemen outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Ayala ran up a 5-0 record in his 6 starts during the month. In 46.2 innings he fanned 38 and recorded a 1.74 ERA.

This year Ayala has 15 wins and 6 losses and a 2.61 ERA.

Thursday, October 1st, 2099: What a month for Braz Centeno! He finished it hitting .328 and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

His monthly totals included a .355 on-base percentage, 38 hits, 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Centeno is currently batting .286 with 23 home runs and 89 RBIs.


Davis Hauls in September's Best Rookie Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2099: Ann Arbor's Jared Davis put the wraps on an excellent month today, topping it off with the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 25-year-old Ann Arbor first baseman played in 19 games and hit .405 with 9 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Davis also scored 17 times and drove in 20 runs.
