Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup 10.2

Hey guys, they have updated Dungeon Crawl to version 10.2

Downloads « Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

Not sure if there's interest in doing another tournament with the latest version, but I've got a Minotaur Fighter at Lvl 11 and a Spriggan Wizard at Lvl 10 currently.

I haven't done a run with Xom as my god, and from the last tourny we had, I don't plan on having him any time soon.

Xom loves you! or doesn't really care about you one way or another.

Thanks for the heads up, will have to check it out.

I haven't played in quite a while, I see they have a new species-Octopodes-they can wear up to 8 rings but no other armor and can constrict-which allows them to immobolize their foes and cause damage over time. May have to try one of those out.

-Mountain Dwarves are gone-too much like Minotaurs amongst other reasons given.
-Centaurs have a slower metabolism (thank the gods)
-some Demonspawn mutations adjusted and some new ones added.
-Kenku are now called Tengu.
-Arcane Marksmen are back, hooray! They have a Hex-based spellbook
-Transmuters get a spell that gives them a temporary beneficial combat mutation
-Necros now have Control Undead in place of Dispel Undead.
-Skills have been changed. You apparantly need to find the right item or spell to train a skill. Even unknown skills can be trained this way.
-Potions of Healing now named Potions of Curing for some reason.
-Many new artifacts added.
-The Hive is now more. Some of the other branches like Snake Pit have been "redecorated" and many new vaults added.
-Many other changes since I last played.

Guess I gotta go give an Octopod a try...

Grover do a search here for crawl and Angband for various threads and competitions we've had for roguelike games-lots of tips and info (and of course horrible and/or embarassing deaths!)

Tried an Octopod Ice Elementalist briefly (you can only be magicy types). Saw one correction from before you can wear hats and shields. Made it to Level 3 with him so far while still on level 1 of the dungeon. But just barely! a kobold throwing darts of flame got me down to 1 hp, before a single throw frost spell took him out, whew! Best find so far are an amulet of resist mutation, the darts of flame, and darts of dispersal.

These are 2 different potions now from what I've found by playing.

Curing will heal about 8 HP, but removes poison, or sickness.

Healing seems to give a great boost to your HP, but won't cure poison. I don't think it cures sickness either, but I haven't used it while sick.

I haven't played this version much since it first came out, but I'd love to do another tourney (and finish last).

welcome to the cult! Yeah everyone is bad at it at first just because there's so much stuff going on and things to figure out, but it will become natural soon enough. The first milestone to know you've started to get the hang of it is when you reach the level with the Ecumenical Temple on it.

Shall we do a tourney with our new friendly species the Octopod? Maybe your choice of one of the four elementalist classes to give us some variety?

Yes I haven't played in a while. Otherwise I would have remembered to make sure I was out of the blast radius of the Arcane Marksman's spell Inner Flame that I tried out on a rat. I did not remember and killed myself when the rat exploded after dying. Ouch.

Trying a Draconian Skald now. Started with a spear because all polearms now start with the "reach" ability to attack one extra square away. Very sweet. Just use v (eVoke) to reach with the weapon.

haven't tried the Octopode yet, but that would be an interesting one to start a tourny with.

How about an Octo Fire Elemental? Is everyone up for that? Or do like Thomkal mentioned, you start with Octo, but you get to choose which of the 4 Elemental classes you want to run with?

212 is my current high score through 5 games. Slowly but surely improving.

Also: count me in for a tournament. I may finish last, but it's worth a shot.
